Gufw / FirewallD

#1 Post by labbe5 »

ufw stands for uncomplicated firewall, and g for GUI. Instead of using the commonly used Puppy firewall in MintPup, offered as an alternative, you can use gufw : apt-get install gufwin terminal, or you only install ufw, and keep it unobstrusive : ufw enable in terminal. By default, out is allowed, and in is refused. Gufw is the GUI for ufw, and helps you do some configuration, in an easy way.

Alternatively, you can have FirewallD installed : apt-get install firewall-applet in terminal. It will not only install the applet, but will also install the main application (FirewallD) and firewall-config. The default network zone is Public.

The main advantage of Gufw is a more configurable firewall. Gufw is very easy to configure, such as Transmission that you can allow in or not.
