Yes, please do post the fix, as I am having this same problem using slacko-6.3.0_32 bit.

Thanks to good testing and reporting by forum member ally, this problem is now properly identified, and a fix is available:
as I explained two posts earlier, the iwlwifi driver looks for version "6" of the compatible firmware, fails, then looks for version "5", then "4" which Puppy contains.
Unfortunately only the first attempt to locate and load the firmware utilises the modern "udev" mechanism; subsequent attempts use the older "hotplug" mechanism, and this causes the failure, since Slacko's modern kernel no longer fully supports hotplug. So there are 2 ways to solve the problem:
i) rename the firmware file from "4" to "6" or -
ii) create a "6" symlink to Puppy's "4" firmware file.

I have passed on this information to the Slacko developer, 01micko.
And by the way, no thanks are due to the original poster, forum member bushyiii.

Just did a Puppy 5.28 frugal install on a Dell Latitude e4310 with this same wireless card that would not work. After reading the post here I found that 5.28 did not have the /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-6000-4.ucode driver. I found a copy online, downloaded and copied it into the directory. Worked perfect.

I hope this may help others who might install 5.28. Thanks to all who replied in this topic.

Now I have to get the audio working which seems to be much harder.

Might have been nice to post the link.

@cthisbear, you are right. I Googled the driver name and found this site: http://www.filewatcher.com/m/iwlwifi-60 ... 608-0.html. I just picked the first ftp site on the list. Thanks again.

Mmm. I must say that obtaining such critical files from a non-official download site is risky business.
The official source of Intel wifi firmware is here -
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/use ... rs/iwlwifi

... but i)
for old Lucid 5.1/5.2-series Puppies I already provided a dotpet of the missing firmware in the "Drivers for Puppy 5.1-5.2.8 with 2.6.33.2 kernel" thread (Feb 2011) -
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 421#497421

and ii)
if you have a more recent 5.2-series Puppy such as "Lucid Puppy Revitalized as 5.2.8.7 - July, 2015"
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=90461
then this already has many fixes, including the (otherwise missing) firmware.

FWIW, a good source of firmware is gyro's repository here, as discussed here.. Download by using right-click, save as.

@tempestuous, Thanks for the corrections and better solutions. My searches hadn't come up with those. I really appreciate the links for 5.28 since it is my favorite.
