Ethics and Apple

Ethics and Apple. What's to expect from the most valuable company in the world in terms of ethics in face of government pressures (encryption backdoor)?

When ethics trumps financial interests :

The government has cracked down on tech companies in the past. A judge imposed a $10,000-a-day penalty on the email service Lavabit when it did not give its digital encryption keys to investigators pursuing information on Edward J. Snowden, the former intelligence contractor who leaked documents about government surveillance.
The small company’s response could be indicative of how individual Apple employees reacted to a court order. When Lavabit was held in contempt, its owner shut down the company rather than comply.

I see this as a made for a purpose 'conflict' google and Android is already flipped and managed by the 'former' head of NSA, spys can't retire they just move to new cover, safer personal pastures. GHW Bush became president, etc etc. now protected for life.
Apple has already flipped  the Government wants terrorist to buy American products they think are 'better' and unbreakable. How best to 'sale' the idea.

Apple should be allowed to secretly unencrypt the phone. Its their design, and their responsibility to make such criminal investigations possible without giving up their secrets. Basically this whole snafu is from the divide and conquer playbook, The real issue is not Apple turning over any secret, but rather, should Apple secrets remain Apple secrets. There is an avenue of Judicial Request for such data without Apple giving up a secret.

Apple should not build any backdoors into their software. A backdoor makes any encryption useless, and we'll have rate of cybercrime (like identify theft) skyrocket; It will also make people lose their trust again in tech companies (again) and it will hurt our damaged economy even more.

I stand with EFF and Apple on this issue. Apple should do the right and responsible thing, and just ignore these demands by the FBI.

This whole debate about apple and their "security" is a big scam if you ask me.

Anyone that did their homework would know that both apple and microsoft is pure spyware and any debate like this is just to give false hope of decency and trust.

When BSMSM starts whining of such issues you can be sure its all a matter of provoking the idea that something is safe, while its not at all. ALL large corporations like MS, Apple, Cisco, IBM and whatever have their backdoors built in and if you dont, you will not become one of the big like them.

Or ask youself this...

If you invest millions of dollars into the MAKING of a very complex and stealth backdoor..
Would you not also want to make a adverting campaign that is is not there?

What does the NSA tell Apple to do when Syria wants same?

In fact, what would Apple do if Apple Employees were taken hostage in some country until Apple complied?

What about China? A country that hunts dissidents.

Blackberry, in some opinions, was nearly finished by the rumor they caved to middle Eastern countries demand to let them read encrypted Communications. They were going down anyway, because of the development of Smart Phones.

Successful encryption must be in the hands of the individual who wants to use it. Not sure if that is really obtainable in today's world.
