Moved cd over to an older non-UEFI box with a bit older Nvidia card and it's running there now.

No problems with regular Slacko 6.3.0 on this box though.
Ok.. bit confused.. :? does regular slacko-6.3.0 run on the hexacore? (if not the I'm thinking kernel issue rather than UEFI)

UEFI-boot: works very well, screen is running at correct resolution (with radeon driver) and touchpad is enabled, mouse cursor working.
Ok, definitely kernel, k3.14.55 v k4.1.11.

Known issue. There is proprietary driver for it that mavrothal compiled.

Thanks for tests everyone and please report other bugs apart from UEFI (and don't edit your post :wink: )

Regular Slacko 6.3.0 and Slacko64 6.3.0 run fine on the hexacore.And Tahr and Tahr64,etc.are fine too.

Some changes are planned for MesaLib or stay at 9.1.7 like current Slacko?

Still unable to successfully boot the Slacko 6.3.0.6 cd to anything resembling a working desktop but ..... did a quick manual frugal install and everything appears fine on the initial boot. Correct resolution,working internet and audio and not frozen ..... :lol:

openssl

#35 Post by 8Geee »

What version is openssl in this distro? I just D/L slim-6 with same kernel 3.14.55-i686 and it had openssl 1.0.1r. NOTE that 1.0.1 will be non-support 12/2016, one needs 1.0.2g to get LTS. I'm looking for a i-686 slacko with 1.0.2 version of openssl.

I tested the 64-bit version on two machines. No problems at all on the Toshiba Satellite, boots in EFI and non-EFI mode.

On the HP Pavilion, it wouldn't boot to desktop, stopping at a blinking cursor. I was able to work around it by booting in "no X" mode, manually loading the radeon driver and then running xorgwizard (without choosing the radeon driver).

Anyway, good job!

Good work 01micko! It's always nice to see a new slacko update. :)

Something I noticed today: When I change any preferences in GNOME-MPlayer (Edit -> Preferences), then exit and restart it, the changes don't stick. It looks like this worked in Slacko 5.7 by creating a file called /root/.config/dconf/user, and I found that adding this package (from 5.7) fixes it: http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pet_packages-slacko14/dconf-0.5.1-i486-s.pet

Another thing I noticed: If you go to the Help -> About in GNOME-Mplayer and some other programs, clicking on the url link directly doesn't work in Slacko 6.3.x, but it did in Slacko 5.7. Perhaps this GTK2 feature was disabled for security reasons?

Code: Select all

#ifdef GTK2_14_ENABLED
#ifndef GTK2_24_ENABLED
    gtk_about_dialog_set_url_hook(about_url_hook, NULL, NULL);
#endif
#endif

Additional findings:
On the laptop that I provide a report on, earlier, closing the laptop lid causes it to go to sleep. But, upon reopening, the system cannot get back to desktop requiring a Hard stop and restart of the laptop.

Again, this is an non-UEFI HP laptop with X2 processor which is used in testing.

Hope this is helpful

I don't know if it'll be of any help, but I'll try it on my laptop, and report.
EDIT: OK, downloaded the 6.3.0.6 32bit iso, extracted to a hard drive directory. Files as at bottom of this post.

Booted frugal slacko, looked fine.

Closed the lid, and the blue power light goes off and on (this is the Dell E6410, I5 Intel processor, presumably uses BIOS rather than UEFI?)
Opened the lid, the screen was blank, then the desktop came back.
Is this called suspend?

Thanks,
Sheldon

On the laptop that I provide a report on, earlier, closing the laptop lid causes it to go to sleep. But, upon reopening, the system cannot get back to desktop requiring a Hard stop and restart of the laptop.

Again, this is an non-UEFI HP laptop with X2 processor which is used in testing.

Hope this is helpful
Hi gcmartin,
Can you try one thing for me on that laptop? Can be running Slacko 6.3.0, 6.3.0.6, or any of their recent derivs. Change the following in /etc/acpi/actions/suspend.sh (save the orig. first):
comment out lines 33 and 40.
add a " and a LF to line 43

Save it and try the lid suspend. I really don't expect that to do it but I don't have a machine that fails lid suspend to try it on.

Thanks,
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

I have a bunch of machines, mostly older laptops and desktop

I've booted the HP DV9917CL and the Dell D620 with 6.3.0.6 so far, no troubles. If I could get my software ported to it and get to where I could easily load my tweaked version, I'd like to do that.

I've customized the Slacko 5.7.0 quite a bit (different kernel, grub2, conky, but mostly just added programs and games, some not normally available), and am trying to figure out how can I do an install of 6.3.0.6 to a machine, add my mods, and then create from that a new ISO that I can burn to CD for the machine that is so old it only has USB 1.1 so can't boot from a flashdrive, and be able to use that CD to install to any of my machines? On my 5.7.0 I have isomaster and pburn, but can't get either to do it, but maybe I'm doing something wrong. Can anyone point me to a how to for tweaking and making a new ISO out of it?

Thanks for creating Slacko, 5.7.0 Mick. I've got almost everything I wanted, and my only problems are because people keep messing with flash stuff, making it incompatible with the code I'm running. My guess is 6.3.0.6 has better odds of those things working too.

Yes, it is. Thanks for your testing on an Intel based Laptop.

I wonder if anyone has an AMD X2 Laptop test they can share.

@Marv, Thanks!

Without making ANY changes, I booted 6301 on LiveCDRW.

Using 6301, I don't have the earlier problems reported when booted 6306; namely lid reopening as well as wired LAN works w/6301.

I cannot find my 6306 disc ATM. When I do, I'll test again. Should I have the problems, again, I will apply your fix, and report what happens on this thread.

Edit: 6306 DVD+RW was overwritten. Will wait for next release.

Booting from CD, Slacko64 6.3.0.6 behaves even worse than Slacko64 6.3.0.0 on my newish HP laptop.

Neither can find my audio, wired network, or wireless network card, nor graphics drivers for the onboard Intel and Nvidia chips.
6.3.0, told to boot to an intermediate resolution, boots to the highest res.
6.3.0.6 doesn't even get that far; no x, lockups, kernel panics, all sorts of entertainment.

In both cases, the file "fdrv_slacko_6.0.8.1.sfs" is not present on the CD.

How do I get the driver file?

Never mind; I got it. It didn't help.
