Is there any way to upgrade from previous xenialpup? Or just need to download the iso and install it again.

Install it again. If you have a previous adrv.sfs then it may work simply renaming it depending on what packages are inside.

xenialpup64-7.0.8.1-uefi.iso boots in qemu with UEFI option. A small issue: while the system is early loading, qemu displays a black screen with just this message "system hasn't inizialized video (yet)". Then after about 20 seconds, the normal boot console log starts showing until the system is fully booted to graphics.

hi bigpup,

it's probably missing firmware.
you could try grabbing the firmware.sfs from here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=97276, renaming it to adrv_xenialpup_7.0.8.1.sfs and putting in the same place the main puppy.sfs & zdrv.sfs are.

hi step ,
have a look through /var/log/messages to see what happened during the boot process.

This had no affect.
Xenialpup 7.0.8.1 frugal on usb flash.
Xenialpup64 7.0.8.1 frugal on USB flash.

The screen seems to go black about the time it is switching to using the nouveau driver.

I am posting this from Tahrpup 6.0.6 running on the same computer.
It boots with no problem.
Note:
That added firmware did help on Tahrpup 6.0.6 to get the wifi working on it.
Needed the rtl8821ae driver.

Got Xenialpup64 7.0.8.1 to boot using the Vesa driver.

hi bigpup,

can you try booting with

Code: Select all

nouveau.config=NvGrUseFW=1
and if that fails can you try this http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... .0.8.1.sfs

renaming to adrv.......sfs as before

Hi Phil, I did, and I couldn't find anything terribly suspicious. No blatant error messages for sure.

No affect.

Tried with just the boot option

Code: Select all

nouveau.config=NvGrUseFW=1
Tried with just the firmware adrv sfs.
Tried using both.

Only thing that works is booting with added boot option:

Code: Select all

nouveau.modeset=0
It boots OK in Tahrpup 6.0.5 or 6.0.6, with no added boot option.
Is Xenialpup using a different Nouveau driver?
Maybe could be that
Or different Xorg
Maybe a setting in the Kernel

Are we having fun yet?

Also wondering why this is happening.
Changed the refresh rate in menu->Setup->Xorg Video Wizard->Screen Resolution (Xorg.conf) and it says it changed.

However I get this output in Pup-Sysinfo

hi bigpup.... can you try the 4.9.15 kernel here
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/huge_kernels/

if you have a savefile/folder type into a terminal and follow the instructions

Code: Select all

change_kernels
else grab the kernel from ibiblio, unzip & rename accordingly vmlinux...blaah..blaahh > vmlinuz
& kernel-modules...blah..blah > xenialpup-or-whatever.zdrvsfs

Thank you Phil. I install it by copying into my flashdisk. That's works.
But when I use YUMI, I can not boot it. How to make YUMI boot my Xenial 7.0.8.1?

hi bigpup.... can you try the 4.9.15 kernel here
Downloaded the huge-4.9.15-xenialpup64.tar.bz2

Tried the 4.9.15 kernel in Xenialpup64 7.0.8.1

No help.

Still had to use nouveau.modeset=0 to get it to boot to desktop.

This had no affect on the resolution settings.
Still shows the same Pup-Sysinfo.

This could be the monitor telling something it can not use the 1366X768 resolution, but it is suppose to be able to.
Well, the native resolution is 1360x768.
It may be detecting that, so it will not let 1366x768 work.

Graphics hardware, resolution settings, seems to have turned into a black art.
What should work seems to never work.

xenialpup 7.0.8.1
Frugal on USB flash drive.
Save folder.

Desktop drive icons.

The unmount (added icon) that appears (upper right) on drive icons when mounted.

Clicking on this (added icon) does not unmount drive.

Booting from a external hard drive. I get a black screen then X failed. Enter in text mode, the advice from the terminal was execute the Xorgwizard.
After executed it and trying to execute the X server, still fail.
The xorg log says:

Code: Select all

RADEON: failed to initialise surface manager
radeon_setup_kernel_mem failed
Pc Info

Code: Select all

Lenovo
AMD A6-6310 APU with AMD Radeon R4 Graphics
6 GB of Ram
Sorry for my english
any advice?

Edit
The X server work now, just executing xorgwizard and select the 2nd option "modesetting" I think. Then just execute in terminal Xwin and the dekstop appear.

Xenialpup 7.0.8.1
Xenialpup64 7.0.8.1

To boot to the desktop. I had to add nouveau.modeset=0 to the boot options.

Both boot to desktop and seem to be working with the Nouveau driver.
Do not understand why this should be needed.

This may explain what the problem could be caused by.
