warning for firefox users about V46 |
|
Be aware that Firefox V46 requires gtk3 and V45.0.2 wants python 2.7.
BUT if your installing it as an online update from 45.0. or before, it's not checking if they are installed/updated and just installing the update over your earlier version whether it's compatable or not.
They have been notified!
regards

scsijon,
Thanks for the warning.
I can confirm that firefox 46 fails to start because of a missing gtk3 library on Tahrpup 6.0.5.
Following your warning, I made a copy of my "firefox" directory before applying the update.
So I was able to easily copy the previous version back.
I've now set the "firefox" preferences to never check for updates.
I have no problem with firefox 45.0.2, but that may be because I always have the "devx" loaded, and my python reports as "Python 2.7.6".

Thanks for warning scsijon!
But of course I was a doofus and allowed my Firefox to update anyway. So that is 30 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
Very very lucky I had a full usb backup somewhere, so I could restore portable Firefox.

DebianDog Jessie Openbox and auto Firefox 46.0 updated version works fine.
Did notice that both the menu and highlight hover/popup text changed colours (easier to read).

In tahrpup install libgtk-3 from the ppm.... I'll probably push this through the updates along with a gtk3 theme for tahrpup 32 (tahrpup 64 already has a gtk3 theme )

Sounds easier to just to stick to ESR branch until Firefox 52+ and not worry about it.
