I have a DVD with a movie.
Contents are two folders

audio_ts
video_ts

video_ts contains file extensions
bup
ifo
vob

I tried gnome mplayer and VLC open disc menu but failed.

Error in mplayer is Couldn't open DVD device: /dev/dvd (File exists)

So long as the drive is mounted, either should play the vob files.

I can play the vob files individually but not the whole movie

Try the method here. Remember, you've gotta have the player play the *mounted* directory.

Step 1- Download VLC Player.
Step 2- Once downloaded you need to install it on your machine.

Step 3- Launch VLC Player (Navigate to Start -> Programs -> VideoLAN -> VLC Media Player)
Step 4- Click File -> Open Directory. Select the VIDEO_TS folder and click OK.

Step 5- Now create a VIDEO_TS folder on desktop or any place of your choice and copy all the ripped files there.

Step 6- Open the ripped files to play the movie.
Thanks but:

5 why would I copy gigs of data to my HD?
6 how do you open the files to play all in order?

These are the files

VIDEO_TS.BUP: 12 K
VIDEO_TS.IFO: 12 K
VIDEO_TS.VOB: 56 K
VTS_01_0.BUP: 82 K
VTS_01_0.IFO: 82 K
VTS_01_0.VOB: 56 K
VTS_01_1.VOB: 1024 M
VTS_01_2.VOB: 1024 M
VTS_01_3.VOB: 1024 M
VTS_01_4.VOB: 467 M

Total: 3539 M (10 files)

If while mounted you're unable to have VLC play the directory, the one who ripped it may have missed something.

I myself have two disks in front of me.. One that didn't fly and one that went off without a hitch. You apply the logic..

I tried VLC in Windows and opened folder with videos. It worked fine. It loaded all the video. Why it doesn't work in Puppy?

No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "mpgv". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.

I have a few ripped dvds on my harddrive and found 2 ways to play them on vlc:

- Media --> Open Directory --> video_ts folder

- Media --> Open File --> video_ts.ifo in the video_ts folder

No idea if it will work on a dvd

This quick test has been done in Tahrpup but it should also work in Slacko.
