I ran inxi in CentOS because I can't get to the network in Slacko live .

Burned Slacko64 6.3.0 live CD- boots, but startx always fails, xorgwizard can't find anything to work with.

Burned Slacko(32) 6.3.0 live CD. ISO and CD report correct checksum.
CD boots, had some difficulty with x. Told xorgwizard to use vesa driver (nv and nouveau no joy), and told it to come up in 1024x768. It came up in 1920x1024 anyway, and seems to work, except that it reports no sound card, no network card, and no wireless card. Tried all 3 network tools, none work. Persistence to usb flash is working.

{ reference, maybe:
Macpup came up okay, seemed to only allow 1920x1024, worked okay including internet and sound, except that reboot/shutdown produced a black screen lockup, so no persistence is possible, which is why I gave up on Macpup.
}

I have never had any Puppy fail this badly on anything.

WTF;over?

------------------
Sorry, thought I was appending above to Slacko/Slacko64 6.3.0 Bug Reports

Is there a way to move it?

Here's the output from inxi installed on Slacko32:

Now I'm puzzled about how the release could be corrupted, given that the CD has the right checksum, and I don't quite understand the suggested override action.

Anyone?

I'm guessing the error msg shown by inxi has to do with corruption of inxi itself; I installed it from a .pet that I downloaded. Adding the % to its command line suppresses the message, i.e., # inxi -Fff% works.

;--

So, just for (not) fun, I burned CDs for TahrPup 6.0.5 and tried them.
TahrPup64 came up at 1920x1040 or so, and seemed to be working okay, except there was no text, anywhere. ... which sort of makes it useless.
TahrPup(32) did the same thing. I managed to wrestle it to a lower resolution, but with text, by running xorgwizard before ever starting X. It worked at 1400x1040 and at 1032x768.
It appears that at least several Pups are confused by the presence of two video adapters, one from Intel and one from Nvidia. Network cards were detected, and initialized ok.

Just for whatever it's worth, here's what inxi produced under TahrPup32 6.0.5:

Some of this is caused by the Linux kernel being used in the Puppy version.

I had to update the kernel, to a newer one, to get Tahrpup64 6.0.5 to work with my hardware, similar to yours.

Info on how to do it is in the first post of the Tahrpup64 6.0.5 topic:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=96748

Also click on the Bug fix icon on desktop to get Tahrpup64 6.0.5 updated.
After that, use Quickpet to get some useful stuff and updates.

Puppy is a little slow in catching up to support for the newest hardware.

Look for a setting in the computers bios to turn off or disable the integrated Intel graphics.
The Nvidia graphics is going to be better.

Using a Nvidia manufactures graphics driver may help you.
Tahrpup64 6.0.5 Quickpet->Drivers may offer one you can use.

BIOS offers no options for selecting video controllers.
No driver for either one seems present in Slacko64.
Slacko64 comes up, in 1920x1024 after selecting vesa driver and 1024x768. ... but it does come up nicely, except for no network access.

Slacko64 also lacks the drivers ath9k and r8169, either one needed for network access; both are listed in the fanciest network setup tool, but an attempt to 'load' either says they are not present.

I wonder where to get them?

Subject description: file "fdrv_slacko_6.0.8.1.sfs" is not present on Slacko64 6.3.0 CD

Tried "puppy pfix=fw_drv" .
Didn't work. Didn't boot to X. Didn't respond to commands.
Stated an intention to 'reboot in 30 seconds', then locked up.
Failed rather badly.

It turns out that the file "fdrv_slacko_6.0.8.1.sfs" is not present on the CD, that has the right checksum, and was burned from an ISO that has the right checksum.

Moving all of the 'optional' firmware and drivers to a separate file and loading it on demand is an interesting idea, but failing to include the file in the distribution makes it difficult to evaluate the idea's merit. .

Ah.
Hoping the file "fdrv_slacko_6.0.8.1.sfs" is on the 6.3.0.6 ISO, now incoming.

Nope.
The fdrv_ file is not present on 6.3.0.6.
The CD is just another coaster.

Judging by the number, and how it's mentioned at the bottom of the announcement, I'm guessing it's in 6.0.8.1:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/test/slacko64/6081/

The fdrv is mostly really obscure drivers though, probably doesn't have what you need... but who knows.

As you suspected, loading the fdrv didn't help; it didn't have the drivers that I need.

AFAIK, I need the following drivers:
r8169
ath9k
snd_hda_intel

The Puppy hardware lister finds all the hardware, as does lspci, but the setup utilities all say 'driver not found' or something similar.

So, where are the _not_really_obscure drivers supposed to be?

Found a Slacko derivative that's mostly working: PuppEX, which has a different kernel.
It's so big that I had to drag out my DVD-writer to burn it.
If found and set up my wifi and ethernet chips without issue.
I am still fighting the video, but it's working, and I'm using it now.

Thanks for all the help.

Did you not understand this post:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=901628#901628
I would try Tahrpup64 6.0.5
