Hi.

lately I found some members of this forum had changed their avatars - now using some topless female body parts as for their new avatar (April, nic007, more?).

Hopefully they don't felt being forced by T.O.P.L.E.S.S. to change their avatar to the new topless female body parts used.

Would be somehow annoying to me...

I hope you have an appropriate default background (wallpaper) for your TOPLESS Puppy. Wink

Hopefully the novelty of all this will wear off and everything will die down naturally. April's choice of avatar (AKA, the boobs that launched a thousand comments) does not seem to me to be that big of a deal. The image in that avatar, however, is an entirely different matter...

At any rate, April seems to have done away with her provocative av, for better or for worse. I liked her before our back-and forth, and I still do. But one of her best qualities, her intensity, was also the very trait that made it so tempting to have some fun with her. I hope this comment is not taken as an attack. On the bright side, she provided the names of some very interesting sites of which I was not aware. The exploration of these sites has become my newest avocation.

This whole issue inspired my awesome comment in a separate sequence. Regrettably, that sequence was locked soon after, preventing me from basking in the glow of the positive responses that surely would have followed. On the other hand, it gave me the last word, immortalized and preserved for posterity...

I do take the action, however, as a chastisement directed at several here, including me...if only a little bit. Wink

I hope that people would consider that this is an international board with people from many different cultures and values. What seems merely silly in most places of the world is very offensive in some places.

As many people have observed, there is a shortage of people actively participating and testing. It would be a shame to chase some of them off with something as silly as a topless avatar.

If anyone has their own guidelines concerning what is 'appropriate', or not, then surely you cannot chastize april for simply following his/hers.

The issue here is that people seem to have a lot of difficulty accepting the differences between their guidelines and those of others.

Personally, I do not find any part of the female (or male) anatomy offensive in any way. I would be more upset by depictions of violence or cruelty, which, by the way, is the type of content children are far more frequently exposed to online than any pictures of a 'sexual' nature.
But such are the guidelines in our society today that we are more willing to accept violence and cruelty as expressions than any manifestations of a sexual nature.

The point is, that you feel offended because you feel someone else 'should' adhere to your guidelines, when they themselves are simply following their own.
And you will be confronted and be offended time after time for as long as you live, until you find a way to accept that people are just different from one another, that they follow their own rules in life, and that you should follow yours and stop being bothered.

I think.

Yes but if you look at the history of this forum, these boob avatars or anything else nude have never been done or allowed before. So the forum has "formed" a certain moral code over the years which does not include anything nude. I think that should be respected.

I agree with this point. Honestly, nude pictures of male and female bodies (or parts of them) is the least of the forums problems and I'm not offended by such pictures at all.

The real problem of the forums is trolling from people like april. For example, in a thread in the multimedia section, she made homophobic comments against me.

Except, it's not really immoral to use boob avatars.

Yes.

Actually each desktop has its own and there are two config files setup like this, so there are at least 20 of it. BUT: I did decide to NOT to include them into the T.O.P.L.E.S.S. archive.

@nic -- 18 USC § 2257 would be the relevant citation. There is some argument that it's not within the letter of the law, as cited, but it's well within the spirit of that law. Yeah, I know, weaker argument -- but no judge is going to want to have to see in the papers the next morning something about them letting little kids see that kind of image.

There's also the argument to be had about PhBB licensing... I don't have a copy of that license to check it, though...

At any rate, it appears you've changed your avatar, for which I thank you.

What kind of law do you practice, if I may ask? My mother, retired now for medical reasons, did a lot of work with indigent TPR cases for most of her career.

Excellent post. Good eye opener to wake up to on a Saturday morning.

Boobs, TOPLESS, PUSSY discussions on distro names or avatars should probably be relegated to the Off-Topic area.

Neither of these affect the technical discussions surrounding Puppy Linux.

Just a thought.

Personally, I am neither offended or annoyed. I do regard member contributions to Puppy of benefit, no matter the contributors or naming of contributions.

Should this thread be in the Off-Topic area? This kind of thing may best be handled out of the technology discussion's view, instead of drawing more public attention away for the technology discussion we are known for in the public area of the forum.
