How large a usb thumb drive can I install puppy on?

#1 Post by haywirepc »

I seem to recall last time I tried using a 64gb thumb drive to install to puppy, it didn't work out so well.

What is the largest usb thumb drive you can install puppy linux on?

Currently, I am using tahrpup.

Thanks...

There is no size limit that I know of.
All you are doing is installing to a storage device some software data code.

If you had problems before, there was probably something wrong with the flash drive or the way you tried to install Puppy.

If formatted Fat32 or NTFS.
If you use the USB thumb drive with Windows, there is a good chance the file system is fragmented and needs defraged.
Not defraging, before installing Puppy, can cause Puppy install problems.

Try it and if you have problems, we, on this forum, can help you figure out what you did or did not do correctly.

Have you done Puppy installs to USB thumb drives before?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

I use Puppy from a 1.5 Terabyte USB drive.
How Puppy "sees" the drive is governed by the firmware in the drive.
