Crashing Firefox 46.0

#1 Post by uio »

Hi,
Firefox has been crashing a lot lately. Both the QuickPet version and a version from PPM have crashed. Sometimes it just keeps crashing, sometimes it is okay. I have the latest flash installed, but don't know if it is flash related.

PPM firefox just crashed repeatedly at http://www.1001freefonts.com/zekton_free.font.

Anyone else having the same issue?

Did you do the Tahrpup updates?
Quickpet->info->Tahrpup updates.

There is a gtk-3 update that Firefox 46 needs.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

GTK3 has many dependencies. Go to setup or it may be in another menu folder and choose check dependencies installed package. Choose Firefox and see if something might be missing to get it working.

Also, you can try booting in the terminal and even after Firefox is working you can keep the terminal open to see what's going on in the background. When it crashes, there should be some error message in the terminal that will give you a better clue.

You can do a Google search for Firefox 46 crashes.
There is all kinds of results.
The answers are all over the place.
Firefox 46 seems to just have problems.

Try doing this:
Change the theme used by gtk 3
What you can do is edit /root/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini so it has

Code: Select all

gtk-theme-name = Default

/root/.config is a hidden directory. In Rox file manager click on the eye icon to see it.

Restart X or even reboot if necessary.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Hi,
The problem was not isolated to Firefox 46 - the quickpet Firefox also had issues... I have tried to modify the gtk-theme-name to default - thanks for the suggestion. It seems okay so far.

Thanks for the advice,
