I'm not sure how many puppies and pets are using the SHA-1 algorithm, but it's been decided in the 'upper echalons' that it's just no longer safe to use. There may be need for a few urgent service-packs against all our puppies, i'm not certain how many and what is effected at this point. Will someone take an action point to check it out as it would be disasterous for puppy to die for a reason like this.

Notices have gone out and apparently the browsers (including the mozilla based ones), server packages, etc., have agreed that they will cease to recognize it from the end of 2016. Of course, when they actually remove it from the network is something quite different!

Discussion is that the replacement will be SHA-3, but which SHA-3 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHA-3 will end up the standard will be interesting as there are 6 SHA-3 sets at present.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), who are apparently now considered internationally responsible for this type of function, released a standard back in August 2015, but......

I shall add anything I can when I receive further on this topic as it arrives.

I think all the linux's will be busy on this one.

regards

I've known about SHA-1 being obsolete for a while now.
