I check with my saluki how all that works.

#81 Post by Pelo »

I check with my saluki how all that works.. it's and old Puppy but the system sould be still the same.. However, nice work mistfire :!:
Saluki : ogle is the default DVD player.
I install Parole.. Parole is not a CD player ??? :!:
And Parole is not a DVD player ! :? it's a simple jukebox, isn't ?
"Parole is a media player for the Xfce desktop environment, written using the GStreamer framework.
Parole features playback of local media files, including video with subtitles support, DVD/CD and live streams; it is also extensible via plugins."
'The functionality available in Media → Play Disc will allow a more convenient method of playing DVDs. After inserting a DVD in your CD/DVD drive, just select it to enter the DVD menu, allowing you to have access to specific titles and chapters, special features, and change the audio and/or subtitles language.'

DVD AC3 is needed for Dolby system

#83 Post by Pelo »

About My DVD , DVD AC3 is needed for Dolby system.
In my head, it's not worth to issue a puplet which should produce the same as the others. I Took a glance at XFCE apps, it's not a myriad of choices..
I will inform you if i find a a gold nugget...

Parole works for my files audio and video

#85 Post by Pelo »

Parole works for my files audio and video (see my topic previous page), problem is CDs and DVDs.
Gxine would be the better, because other apps depend on it. But Gxine is not XFCE; and Gxine is the media player of all vintage puppies. A brand new kernel with a vintage player, better is to launch a 431 XFCE.
Slim yes, but not outdated.
Could you find this DVD ac3 missing. I had a third DVD , it the same error.
I check with my 5.3.3 XFCE by Jejy 69* if Parole still miss DVD ac3...

* This Puppy XFCE is collector !

Videos avi : screencast of Xenialpup desktop by Vokoscreen. VLC unable to read it (vdpau missing). Transfered to Parole and ... sucessfull.
Videos Mpeg, MP4, FLV : audio and video successfully played by Parole
Video ogv :audio and video successfully played by Parole

I successfully play an audio cd on parole media player by using this command. (whole cd track)

Code: Select all

parole --device=/dev/sr0 cdda://
for DVD playback

Code: Select all

parole --device=/dev/sr0 dvd://
Apply this setting on thunar-volman and will automatically play CD/DVD when inserted

Code: Select all

parole --device=% cdda:// #CD playback
parole --device=% dvd:// #DVD playback
If you type cdda:// on open location it will play only a single track of audio CD not a whole disc. dvd:// Is not been tested yet

chromium in X-slacko-slim

#88 Post by Marv »

I run peebees chromium SFS from here http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=81351 in all my pups. It ran in X-slacko 4.1 but to get it to run in slim I had to add back in some missing libs. I put them in usr/lib rather than in a firefox dir there as they were in X-slacko 4.1. I made a pet out of it but it is too big at 1.3Mb to attach. Here is the package list of the files from the pet though:

Code: Select all

/usr/
/usr/lib/
/usr/lib/libplds4.so
/usr/lib/libplc4.so
/usr/lib/libssl3.so
/usr/lib/libsmime3.so
/usr/lib/libplds4.so.0d
/usr/lib/libplc4.so.0d
/usr/lib/libnssutil3.so
/usr/lib/libnss3.so
/usr/lib/libnspr4.so.0d
/usr/lib/nss/
/usr/lib/nss/libnssdbm3.so
/usr/lib/nss/libfreebl3.so
/usr/lib/nss/libsoftokn3.chk
/usr/lib/nss/libnssckbi.so
/usr/lib/nss/libfreebl3.chk
/usr/lib/nss/libnssdbm3.chk
/usr/lib/nss/libsoftokn3.so
/usr/lib/libnspr4.so
Might be a bit extra in it but I think not much.
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

Pelo

the first Puppy Fully Xfce, not only desktop

#92 Post by Pelo »

Mistfire, if we succeed to run all functions of parole mediaplayer, X-Slacko Slim would be the first Puppy Fully Xfce, not only desktop. All others run classical multimedia as CD-player.
I am running XFCE Slacko 5.3.3 by Jejy.69 right now with an old version of Parole. Test bench goes on.
Feed-back soon
Don't forget this distro must be Slim ! (Chrome ? ) and XFCE (But mistfire, you are the captain in the matter, i am just a taster, with an 'a'.
:) :D :!: parole --device=/dev/sr0 cdda://
Parole plays my CD !

Next step ; Launch Parole as default CD player, and add it in the menu. Saluki was using Pcd, which is not XFCE app ! Jejy 69 was using Pmusic.
Screenshot : Parole in XFCE 5.3.3
I restart X-slacko Slim, in a few minutes.

everything works as it should work, CD and DVD.

#93 Post by Pelo »

Mistfire, in terminal with an old version of Parole and old Puppy XFCE 5.3.3 everything works as it should work, CD and DVD. That is a great step (forward of course)
Audio with DVD : serviceable
Chapters : cick with the mouse is efficient.
Langage français pas reconnu, don't mind, we shall deal with that later.
NO need of Xine and Gxine !

well, downloading newest version

#96 Post by Pelo »

well, downloading newest version.
Mistfire, would it be ... to ask you an Sfs for Parole, to make LTS your nice work.
aparte : Midori no bug untill now.. well that is to underline..
I try to keep the spirit of Slim Puppy. I will not load another browser if Midori does its job !

@Pelo did you mean a parole player package with DVD playback?

When i insert my CD 'Tour de France',

#98 Post by Pelo »

First, new version launched. What could i say ? When i insert my CD 'Tour de France', Parole immediatly is ready to play my songs !
Beware ! if a Puppy has no bugs, soon it will be forgotten by our hospital forum  and Linux nurses.
SFS : wait some weeks to get feed back from people playing Parole.
The idea would be to give a new chance to Parole forgotten since ... Fluppy 013 ! An SFS will allow Puppy melomanes (Music Lovers) to use it on all XFCE Puppy
Wait and see.

Don't forget i am a passenger, not a Linux mechanics.. :)

#100 Post by Pelo »

I have 13 songs to listen ! Don't forget i am a passenger, not a Linux mechanics.. :)
yes, i will test DVD.
Desktop bugs are appearing at home : icons are dissapearing, but i want to deal only with XFCE apps. Some visitors of the topic would feed back soon.
For me, it's not a 'No Go item', just something to solve later.
I prefer to get Parole a nice alternative to Gxine and VLC..
Artwork, titles, Lyrics, all that has to be checked deeper.
