Xenialpup64 CE 7.5 / 25 Nov 2017

#1 Post by 666philb »

Xenialpup64 CE 7.5
built with woofCE testing

this is xenialpup64 CE built with 64bit ubuntu xenial xerus 16.04 libs.
kernel 4.9.58

JWM, Rox, palemoon, deadbeef, mpv, simple-screen-recorder, pburn, mtpaint, claws-mail, geany, osmo, hexchat, abiword, gnumeric, urxvt, urxvtcontrol ,JWMdesk, simplegtkradio, packit, uextract, cups, samba and lots more.
Including the brilliant puppy icon theme by 01micko http://blog.puppylinux.com/?viewDetailed=00016

thanks to all the developers, contributors & testers!

Xenialpup was only possible because of 'woofCE', forked from woof created by Barry k, maintained by 01micko, wdlkmpx, mavrothal, iguleder, zigbert and contributed to by various others.... all the hard work went on there :D

Xenialpup64 (like Slacko64) did not detect my b43 wireless, so I did change_kernels to the tahr64 one and now it works. :)

hello 666philb

Thanks for this. Excellent timing, with the packagers on Launchpad starting to delete their Trusty builds.

I installed xenialpup64 this morning and its working very well.

I've installed, from Launchpad:
mpv 18
SMplayer 16.6
vaapi 1.7.1
Gnome-mpv
DVB-tools

No problems, they all seem to be working normally.

I copied over the firmware for my DVB-T2 tuner and checked that DVBV5-scan would scan the Crystal Palace multiplexes, and that worked OK.

Tomorrow I will install TVheadend and check that out.

I'm only stuck on one thing: How to change the text under the desktop icons from black to white. I need a darker background so that I can find the mouse pointer, but I haven't discovered where the text colour is configured.

Thanks again.

G'day LateAdopter and et al.,

Here is a solution to consider. It requires modifying the options in ROX-Filer. Position the mouse pointer over one of the desktop icons, use a right mouse click to open the alternate menu, then: ROX-Filer > options > then select Pinboard. Under 'Appearance' there is the Foreground. Use a single click on the adjacent color box, this will open the Color Selection window, here you can input your desired color change. Typically I simply make a direct entry in the Color Name box to #FFFFFF which maps to white for more background contrast.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

xcalc shouldn't be in the menu as it will crash the desktop...so don't touch!
A few more that don't work for me:

- Fun -> Rubix cube puzzle (its link in ppm doesn't work also)
- Multimedia -> Bacon Recorder - Audio
- Multimedia -> FFConvert v1.4.2 (opens but lib error message below)
- Setup -> Default Applications Chooser

Pbackup is missing icons too it seems 8)

the ffconvert error is odd as it is working for me .... libvdpau.so.1 is a symlink to libvdpau.so.1.0.0 ... can you right click on /usr/lib/libvdpau.so.1.0.0 and choose properties...should be the same as attached image.

I did a manual frugal install to a usb-3.0 SSD, pc is an Acer desktop.

VIDEO REPORT: xenialpup64, version 7.0.7

Loaded modules: dbe dri2 extmod glx kbd mouse present

Actual rendering on monitor:

I tried installing an Audacious 3.7.2 pet that I made in tahr64-6.0.5
and it worked, needed to install a gnome-icon-theme with PPM to get all
the icons it needs.
Trying to install certain applications with PPM (kpat) break it requiring save
file deletion and a fresh start.

Thanks, that did it. Since background and Icon theme belong to JWM, I hadn't realised that the text belonged to Rox.

Linked to forum francophone, for our colleague OUI, who refused to run 32 bits on its 64bits computer. Puppy Linux offers him Xenialpup64, he can trash his Ubuntu installation..
Ubuntu Xenial Xerus to be trashed :!:
It was a Christmas gift december 2015. This version was bêta.

I run audacious 3.7.2, on Xenialpup 32. Would i change for 64 bits version ? Xenialpup 64 downloading to my Puppy Collection... 300mb is not big when your RAM is 4GB as Mine.. A Long time ago, Cds were 700MB, now we can use Puppies Up to 2GB.
We only need a Puppy Linux media player able to read DVDs.

desktop very garbled, but browser ok. Mouse with hesitations.
Desktop update slowly..
Diagnostic with 32 bits version was similar, but less important.
Everything is normal after five minutes.
Tested PPM : bino 3D downloaded well. Video avi ok (only left channel , because 2D). I Have no 3D movie at home for test.
