I tried my microsoft lifechat LX-3000 headset, and there was no way to
control sound volume using mpv. The headset must be set in Sound
Setup as the "card" to use. Doing this disables the tray volume control.
I found quite a number of gui for mvp, and picked smplayer which
installed from the repo using PPM. It works fine.
I can't get over how nice certain things are when using Tahr and Xenial
pups. The PPM is amazing. Linux is amazing for having drivers for such things as my MS headset and canon printer.

Hi,
thanks 666philb for this new version 7.0.8.5
I got a try on a laptop hp2530p elitebook featured with wireless broadcom BCM4312 802/11b/G.
No wifi connection: Simple Network Wizard does not detect any wlan interface.
lsmod reports b43 module is loaded.
Wireless interface is active:
I also compiled a wl.ko driver using a broadcom patch to kernel 4.8.0 according to forum member peebee's post http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 946#884946: compilation went well but dmesg reports the patch might be too old for kernel 4.9.15:
Thanks for any advice.
Best regards
Charlie

Establishing the Wine-data folder
Hi tlchost,
My apologies. I thought that the first post on the portable-wine thread gave instructions. It doesn't. Or that the HELP..html you'll find within the extracted package would help. It sort-of does, but tells you to click OK and I think OK has undergone a name change. I've been using portable-wine so long I don't remember where I got the instructions.
At any rate, this post discusses portable-wine in detail. http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 296#814296. Instructions are given below the one paragraph line reading "On to working with wine:"
But, my recollection is that all that is necessary after you've extracted wine-portable from the tar.gz you downloaded is to RIGHT-CLICK the wine-portable folder and from the Pop-up menu select Register Portable Wine on Puppy Menu. It will do that, but also create the Wine-data folder within the Wine-portable folder. You're next step would be to configure wine: Menu>Utilities>Wine Config.
Among the menu entries created is Menu>System>Wine Windows Program Loader. It will enable you to scroll thru all executables in the Wine-data folder and select which to run. But, if you intend to create individual menu entries to programs --instructions on the post linked to above-- I suggest that before registering wine-portable, you right-click the folder and rename it to just "wine-portable" without the version designation. The registration mechanism only allows one wine-portable anyway: a second will over-write the first. And, if you change the name of the wine-portable folder after registering, you'll have to register again, IIRC, having first Uninstalled the first registration via Puppy Package Manager.

I run xenial on a usb drive formatted in fat32...do you thinK the portable wine will work on fat32...if not, it's a no starter since I need to access text files, etc. on a windows macHINE
I'm writing from Xenialpup-7.0.8.5 right now, it seems to be much more compatible with my ASUS X555LB laptop than previous versions.
The only issue detected, until now, is when in Puppy event manager I set save session to 0 and tick on "Ask at shutdown to save session Whether or not", during the shutdown procedure the choice window appears properly but it is freezed, fortunately the procedure continues after 60 seconds but I could not choose whether or not to save.
Greetings
Edit: The issue is related to the video driver, it happens only if I choose VESA video driver. With the modesetting video driver, unlike in tahr64-6.0.5 in which it is my default video driver, I get a black screen with an X instead of a mouse pointer. If I choose the automatic xorgwizard procedure (intel video driver) the pc sometimes freezes.

WOW !
This pup ROCKS !
Fast as a greyhound.
Everything works fine, just need to use an USB stick for wifi, as my built in device and other usb wlan power antenna is not working ATM.
Other minor issue : The savefile is on HDD partition as dialog box only offers to save on SDB2 (10 MB too small) when I try to save on USB 2 GB SDB1 partition.
other mall issue num pad not working yet.
So far this is the best 64 bit pup for my LENOVO idea pad 110.
Very Génial (in French : Genius)

Portable-Wine on Fat32 -- I think it works
Hi tlchost,
I can't say from experience whether portable-wine will function properly from a Fat32 partition. But if I read the posts correctly, it now does. Shortly after shinobar published, OverDrive posted that it wasn't. Shinobar worked on it and posted new links.http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 993#762993
That post, however, contained the statement "#Fix was failed on VFAT filesystem". English is not shinobar's native language, I think the quotation reflects the reason for the new publication rather than the current status of the application because:
(1) why publish new versions if they also don't work' and
(2) the next post on the thread is by OverDrive and tells us that it now works.
OverDrive indicates that a reboot is required.
I may be mistaken, but I think the links to applications from the above cited post take you to the same repo and folder as those from the first post, the original versions of portable-wine having been replaced by the fixed versions. But, just to be safe, I'd download one of the versions from that post.
If that version doesn't include winetricks and you want it, Mike Walsh provided the recipe for adding it which he's tested under Ubuntu based Puppies: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 096#900096

However, when palemoon is launched as spot it seems the $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS is not recognized in the spot environment and a session-bus file is not created. For comparison, see a normal session-bus file below for tahrpup64 (image 2).
Although palemoon launches as spot for me in xenialpup64-7.0.8.5, I see the following pop-up error message: No D-BUS daemon running (image 3).

b43 was requested earlier in the xenialpups thread and is probably blocking your wireless driver.
try blacklisting it in ...menu>>system>>bootmanager

With xenialpup64 7.0.8.4 or 5 the leds on Genius Comfy KB 21e Scroll above the numpad don'ť light (unlike 7.0.7 with the older kernel). The numpad itself is working.
Very interesting: adding another usb keyboard revives the leds on Genius and they keep working even after unplugging the second keyboard!
Unfortunately I couldn't create nvidia drivers 304xx with any xenialpup64 using getnvidia (errors reported). Especially mpv+nouveau+my nvidia card causes screen freezing.
So far I stick with 7.0.7
7.0.8 otherwise very promising!

The correct kernel source and devx sfs? 64 bit?
Nvivida 64 bit driver run package?
Getnvidia 64bit and the correct other sfs packages worked OK for me to make the Nvidia64 bit 375.39 driver.
Get kernel source sfs here:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... -xenial64/
Make sure you get the correct kernel source
The devx sfs here:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/test/xenialpup/
The Nvidia driver run package does need to be in /mnt/home
I did get errors if it was not in that location.

Hi Phil, thanks for your reply !
I indeed already had "blacklisted" b43 by editing /etc/rc.d/MODULESCONFIG and copying wl.ko to /lib/modules/4.9.15/kernel/drivers/net/wireless
as forum member ozsouth does (see http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 110#921110)
So, b43 is not longer listed in lsmod report nor in the bootmanagers modules list.
Charlie

What is the specific Nvidia hardware?
Yes, the SFS packages and the Nvidia run package all need to be in /mnt/home.
You do have the devx and kernel sfs packages loaded by using menu->Setup->SFS-load-on-the-fly?
I would double check and make sure you got the correct Nvidia driver run package and it was a good download.
You are getting the Nvidia driver package directly from Nvidia web site driver download?
Same for the other sfs packages.
I have seen those same errors and it turned out I had a bad or wrong package. Nvidia run or SFS.
This is a computer with at least 1GB of memory?
That could be an issue.
