I have a Microsoft HD-5000 webcam.
It is not recording sound.
It was working on an older system, but now I have an AMD system.
I have tried adjusting volume thru alsamixer, but no luck.

Interesting, I thought it was only me.
Same problem, no audio and very laggy video.
Tried mplayer, vlc, even pavrecord with varying degrees of video quality but in
all cases no audio.
Tried the usual things like mixer levels, checking that v4l is loaded, camera comes up as /dev/video0 but nothing.
Interestingly, running aplay -L does not show the webcam as an audio source.
Will be watching this thread with great interest.

The mic in a USB webcam will appear on the system as a different soundcard. Altering the settings of the main soundcard will have no effect. You have to select the soundcard in alsamixer or retrovol first and then you will see settings for capture volume relating to that soundcard. You may also need to select the USB soundcard as the device in whatever program you are using to record.

Alsamixer is poorly written and very hard to understand.Pete wrote:Interesting, I thought it was only me.

Made no difference.
I have an external mike that does record, but know of no way to combine
it's audio with my video recording.
