ASPIRE E 15 no sound with USB audio interface

#1 Post by SFTMartin »

Hallo
running
LXPUP 1606203R
on an Acer Aspire e15 ( windows 10)
I can get sound from the internal speakers but not from the connected USB audio interface (Alesis IO2)

Strangely running a daw in WIne does give me audio on the Alesis.
Any pointers, ideas ?

thank you

Martin

Did you look at alsamixer

http://www.puppylinux.org/wikka/alsamixer

sometimes sounds cards are mute by default.

if no joy what does the following command return:

Code: Select all

aplay -l ; arecord -l

thanks for the tips but so far no joy

I switched the sound card in alsamixer and in the mplayer preferences to io2. Gnome Mplayer stops the track. If i change mplayer to default I can play the track but I get the laptop sound.
aplayer output is

# aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel HDMI], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel HDMI], device 8: HDMI 2 [HDMI 2]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HDMI [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC255 Analog [ALC255 Analog]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 2: pcsp [pcsp], device 0: pcspeaker [pcsp]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 3: io2 [io|2], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

it is the io2 which I want working
thanks
Martin

This sounds like the 'classic' multiple soundcard problem,

You may be able to select the USB soundcard using Retrovol,

~Right-click on the speacker icon on the panel:
~~Config window - configure app and select soundcard, it has three tabs
~~~Hardware - pick soundcard, ##hw:1## means use soundcard 1 - your case the USB device
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Retrovol
If that doesn't work the multiple sound card wizard might help, see:
ASPIRE e15 sound on USB audio interface
#5 Post by SFTMartin »
An update : I spent a lot of time trying to rewrite the config file but eventually gave up and reverted to the original config file.
However,when I connected the USB interface directly to the computer -- not thru a usb rack I got the sound. If i remove the interface and then plug it in again, it fails and I have to reboot. But so far so good, it has been ok for the last two weeks.
