Software for TV card ?

Does Puppy have any programs for tv cards ?

I like tvheadend. If you want to just watch tv, vlc works well when you generate te correct file for yor area.

Search with google. You may have to compile the source. Are you able to do this? If you were using fatdog64 it is in my repository.

Not very familiar with compiling.

I have gcc.

Downloading source now...I hope it is.

In the directory where the source is extracted, in a terminal type:
1. ./configure --prefix=/usr
2. Make
3. Make install

This will compile and install tvheadend into you system.

Next you need to find dvb-tools and compile them from source. These are the tools you need to make the electronic program guide. One of these tools will make a file so you can use vlc or mplayer to watch tv.
Somewhere in the forums is a thread on how to do this, I think.

I do not think tvheadend would work.

Four other players have failed to find channels or do not see the tuner card.
Though lsusb sees the card.

No available device from Kaffeine.

Tuner card may be un-usable.

Under Ubuntu_Mate,

I got the card receiving TV channels.

MeTV is picking up about 20 channels out of about 60 available.

Looking to get a better antenna than the 16 inch one I have now.

It's just a simple antenna you would have on a radio.

I would like to get tvdeadhead compiled and see how it does.

Andy you need to load the devx sfs. Compiling requires more that gcc.

I have slack-6.3.2 frugal. I will try it later.

Ok I had a try a failed miserably. Too much stuff in slacko-632 is too old for the latest tvheadend. I have a version at home that might build but I won't be home for a while.

I did find this little app that looks very nice. It's a bit old but it looks like it has potential. It called TVtime. It doesn't appear to have EPG.

The input on my laptop defaults to my webcam and it's quite good quality. You will need to try different key combinations for controls. Right click mouse give you lots of control.

If you don't want to play around with additional Apps then use mplayer as it's already included in slacko. I prefer vlc but that's additional software.
If you read this thread http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=96828 in it's entirety you should only need to download one package call w_scan which generates the channel data.

It might be a learning experience but you will receive a real sense of accomplishment once you get it working.

I have compiled w_scan and tvheadend in slacko-6.3.2.

Read how to use w_scan here and tvheadend here.
For tvheadend, install the package then open a terminal and type: tvheadend -C
The TV server should now be running. You need to keep the terminal open but it can be minimized. You access the server with a web browser. If you are going to use a web browser on the same computer as the server then type in the following address: http://localhost:9981 and you should see the server. For some reason this worked here without installing the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). If it doesn't, install the JRE from the repo. If you want to access the server from a different computer, but on the same network (LAN) then type in the appropriate IP, EG: 192.168.x.x:9981. To find the local IP of the server computer either click on the network icon in the tray or type: ifconfig in a terminal.

It does take a little effort to configure it so read the help I provided in the link above. BTW once you have selected your TV card in the config, it can take quite a while for the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) to locate and populate the channels and data. Be patient.

My system asks for a user name and password when I attempt to connect via either localhost or remote computer on the same network. I am using the -C parameter as you instructed. I also tried the --noacl parameter without any luck.

Do you have any advice for me? I'm running a frugal install of Slacko64 6.3.2.

Also, as a note to others that are interested, I had to install the 32-bit compiler SFS before I got the program to run.

Did you try username "root" and password "woofwoof" (without quotes)?

@tdcline94, I must admit I can't remember. Have you tried root and woof woof?
If CatDude sees this he may be able to help. I'm sure it's in the tvheadend documentation somewhere.
