Underdog GUI 1.2.3: GUI tool for Underdog linux

#1 Post by mistfire »

This GUI tool allows to enable or disable underdog linux capability of puppy linux.

What is underdog linux?

Underdog linux is a feature of puppy linux with allows user to use the other installed linux distro. It will mount the partition on the bottom layer of unionfs.

hi mistfire, interesting..

i was thinking about this. the init in woofce has been rewritten. there's a new implementation, only as a boot parameter. but i will add support for the underdog.lnx file

https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/w ... dad0a82b0d

i've never used this feature, you might want to test the woofce stuff, i think peebee can provide a iso one of these days. meanwhile i edited your script... underdog and underdog-gui became one, also more flashy... woofce style.

attached file "underdog-fake.gz", remove -fake.gz

@jlst thanks for your revision. I will include that in the new version soon. I tried underdog in x-slacko slim using installed slitaz and it works. However the X window of slitaz and X window of puppy run at the same time, as a result there are two panels running at the same time. One for puppy and one for slitaz. I wonder there is any way to supress the X window of other distro by default and the puppy run on top unless the user switch X window environment and use the X window of other distro?

well, I'm not sure.. never used the underdog feature.

but i have to make sure the underdog stuff works the same with the new init

so i need to install slitaz to a partition and just use that partition for the underdog?

in current puppies (v5), the "underdog" partition is actually at the top layer, so it makes sense to call it "topdog"

Yes @jlst you need to install slitaz or any linux distro in a partition and use it for the underdog.

I choose slitaz for testing the underdog because of its small image and its easy to download.

Interesting, will it work with Slacko 6.3.0 32 bit?

BTW, typos in the text of the GUI, shown below.

@Pete It will works on slacko because I tested that on x-slacko slim and it works. The host partition that I used was the installed slitaz. You can try another distro to use as underdog.

This is cool, can it work to puppify a ARM based system. The versions of RaspberryPi distros are sudo heavy.

@TeX Dog theoretically yes since the date where barry reenable the underdog feature. Watch out on the X server of the other distro. It will run at the same time with puppy
