Making email safer with new security warnings in Gmail

For more on security and Google : https://security.googleblog.com/

By reading the blogs above, you will better understand how Google is at the center of a trend toward more security and privacy on the Web, with the help of Linux community and some big names, such as Mozilla.

Without Google, internet would be less secure, despite what critics say about Google and its dubious practices.

Actually, for the Web to stay relevant, it is necessary that security and privacy are taken very seriously, for a simple reason : internet is now part of a dynamic and prosperous economy. Firms couldn't be productive anymore without it. And each data breach is a step backward in this global trend, and a reminder how important internet has become in our lives, and how hackers are telling us we don't do enough yet, security-wise.

The only way Google could possibly claim to make the web more secure is when they are the ONLY player left in the market and therefore already have all the information available.
They certainly seem to be trying to take control of the Web.
