Everything I use is looking good. Though it would be nice to figure out what packages are needed to get Slic3r running.

Thank you again Barry for a great Linux distro. May Puppy Linux on the RPi outlast the production of the RPi.

lost count of rebuild.. but found something to look into. Overlay directory between 8.1 and 8.1.1 looked different sized for the recopy.
What I did was copy 8.1 files to different part of usb harddrive but left to boot with 8.1.1 version mm0p1. added Dons omxplayer which worked nice before into 8.1... Guess what happened .. same poor playback and black screen froze on exit.
hopefully its just a lack of firmware. Will test now 8.1 with 8.1 boot overlays and report back. Then try 8.1.1 with 8.1s Overlay files.

Aargh!

There are bugs in the simplevp script. Don't use SimpleVP until I post fixed scripts.

I did have it working, then made some changes and didn't test properly afterward. Things like leaving off a "$" prefix!

Of course, if you are running Omxplayer directly, that is another matter. I will test that also.

One difference from 8.1 is that I took out some "dead wood". There is the possibility that one of those files isn't so dead.

PostPosted: Tue 08 Nov 2016, 13:53    Post subject: Quirky booting directly from Pi3 USB hard disk, no SD card!

Well, I got my Pi3 (with the burned OTP fuse) booting Quirky from an old, 256GB Verbatim USB2.0 hard disk. No SD card was needed.

After dd'ing Quirky 8.1.1 directly to the USB HD, I copied over the fixup* start* and bootcode.bin files from the 'next' branch to the FAT partition (see my previous post in this thread for details).

Just modified cmdline.txt and /etc/fstab as before, had the Pi3 power cable & one end of the USB HD Y-cable connected to a 2-port USB charger.

Then plugged the charger into an AC outlet. After about 15s, the colored screen appeared. Quirky finished booting to the desktop after another 30s, so about 45s altogether.

Ethernet connected, I changed the keyboard layout, time zone, locale - all was saved and worked after reboot. Nice!

Unfortunately, this same USB HD didn't work with my Pi2 and prepared SD card.

There's a problem when dropping a folder of audio files such as ogg or mp3
on simple VP. A folder of videos will apparently work with Simple VP.

I found that OMX player did work until I pressed the spacebar,
then it froze and I had to reboot.
The keyboard shortcuts didn't work unfortunately. Crying or Very sad

I suggest a change of wording with Simple VP...

Instead of 'Size' I would suggest 'Frame size' or 'Display'

and the help system would be faster if an independent gtkdialog window
was launched when the help button was clicked, rather than the
launching of the browser.

Quick Setup worked well to connect up ethernet.

However under 'Manage daemons' why isn't SSH or Dropbear listed?

Yes, there were a few bugs. I have now got SimpleVP working on my Pi2, omxplayer, only tested big buck bunny 480p avi file.

That particular bug, freeze after pause, is due to omxplayer not having keyboard focus, which was due to the OSC. That is also fixed.

Try the attached files. "gunzip" them, make sure executable, place at /usr/local/SimpleVP

Then, MOST IMPORTANT, delete all files in /var/local/simplevp and /tmp/simplevp

One thing, don't know if relevant, but I have "gpu_mem=128" in config.txt. I think needs to be bumped higher for vlc fullscreen.

Daemons are launched in /etc/init.d, that is where QuickSetup looks. If a file is executable, then it is active.

Fixed.

Also, added "proper" support for ffplay.

Previously, even when selected FFplay, SimpleVP still used VLC to play. Now using ffplay.

As to be expected, ffplay doesn't do 1080p very well.

As before, gunzip, place in /usr/local/SimpleVP, and delete contents of /var/local/simplevp and /tmp/simplevp

Speaking of daemons, any way to get xrdp or at least ssh running so I can play with QuirkyPi on my main PC? Don't find anything among the packages.
