/etc/services file ?update due?

#1 Post by scsijon »

Looking at my puppy racy551 and the various woof's I have access I find that there are a lot of service ports not mentioned.

As I understand it, if it's not listed there you cannot block it.

I have attached T2's current one if anyone is interested in trying it out, It does have extra information in the file, but this doesn't seem to worry it. It does seem ok to use so a straight copy.

As in the past user beware, kaviat emptor and all that stuff, take a copy of your old one before trying and don't forget you need a COLD boot for it to take effect as it is read when the port(s) is(are) initialized, so make sure you have an alternate way to boot in case your puppy doesn't like it.

If anyone has those of other 'base' distributions with other ports not listed in the attached in theirs, I would be pleased to receive a copy of their services file, with the format sources-distribution-version please, so they don't overwrite each other and I shall feedback to both T2's Rene and you all in due course if any updates ocurr.

regards
