I'm here lurking in the dark
Look, I'm still struggling to know what Linux or Puppy is all about. Even if I was to visit the forums more regularly, I am not a coder nor a power user.. yet!

Probably the simplest way is a social bookmarking service which allows exporting to html.
Google's bookmarks is free and simple but AFAIK does not support inviting others to collaborate.
I've been looking for an alternative and the free version of bookmarkos.com seems to me more than sufficient to undertake this monumental task :)

Without being in any way racist, it's a well-known fact that the Germans don't have a sense of humour.
No, I don't take this personal or offended, though:

- for appr. eleven (11) years, my Girlfriend has several laughs a day, seven (7) days a week, 52 weeks a year!

Though, -of course- I'm not a usual/average German - as you all may already know?

No, but I gave my old drum kit away for free to a music store collecting instruments for refugees!

Maybe getting more material for the blog would be a better or a regular monthly "what happened this month" blog entry would be a more efficient use of time.
Thanks. I added the rss of this blog to mty feedly news reader along with a few more sites: barryk's rss and puppy linux news

I may start bookmarking and eventually sharing it on my forum signature

I don't think it was censorship. Just do it again?

Na....I've had way too many of my posts disappear over the years.

I am not able to easily test this....but might this be a work around:

have teamviewer in the startup folder? It might work, and if so, would survive when the system was rebooted.

@kerl, notecase maybe something worth considering. Each author can work on their own article in separate nodes which can all be combined for final release. The .ncd extension can be changed to html and be displayed as a normal web page. Images are stored as base64 so the entire html or ncd is a single file. Notecase also allows hyperlinks.

This would be a tidy solution and easy for one person to manage the nodes.

jlst wrote:This is what I know about Puppy.

Major Puppy development happens in 4 different projects:
1) Barry's Quirky
2) Woof-CE - the official 'brand'
3) fatdog
4) DebianDog and alll the Dogs

puppy development happens between remasters as well.. the derivatives.

Now let's talk about WoofCE. There are about 700 commits since the last major change that was used for xenial 7.0.4.

However micko released slacko beta 1 and 2 which are about 300-400 commits behind.

the current codebase fixes several issues at woof level but also introduces a few bugs.

1) multisession dvd currently not working with the new initrd init.. to be fixed asap...
2) some fixes are needed in the ubuntu configs
3) other possible issues

phil -- we all know he's there but at the same time he isn't..
micko -- i heard he has a job consuming all his time

all the other known collaborators and experts are currently inactive. or working in their own projects.

A new developer has joined... woodenshoe-wi for raspbian jessie.

The puppy scripts are way too complex for simple mortals to handle them, so i've been trying to simplify and fix some of them while building a Debian Stretch puppy - a work in progress.. which will lead to the creation of Devuan Ascii. So in january 2017 a basic build of both will be possible. it will be missing apps, as i'll try to make it as simple as possible... and use as many debian pkgs as possible to easily create a x86_64 version of them.

As usual the main problem with Puppy and within woofce is communication.. it rarely happens or works, so decisions tend to happen directly by comitting changes...

That's my report being as sincere as possible.
Hi jlst.

You're mixing editorial policy and content. Content and news later please,
for when the newsletter will be operational.

As to editorial policy, Barry has decided to retire from Puppy, and his new
Quirkies have a completely new non-Puppy design. His off-shoot should
therefore not be a subject in a Puppy-focused newsletter.

If he has something new to contribute to the Puppy context, that's fine,
but otherwise his Quirky should be off-limits for this newsletter, IMO.
BarryK can not be simultaneously in and out of Puppy.

Same for DebianDogs. They are tangent, using some Puppy material,
but not really Puppies.

In my mind this newsletter should focus solely on things Puppy. With the
two policies above, we regain a lot of energy to concentrate on Puppy
proper. We stop spreading ourselves too thin.

About Barry, if that sounds like the rejected son rejecting his rejecting
father, so be it. Quirky is now an entity different and separate from Puppy.

About the DebianDogs, the product is excellent except -- as I understand
it from reading their first post -- they took refuge here because Debian
slashed their originating project a few years ago. Therefore they are
more Debian than Puppy.

I make a note of your other content, jlst, to include it as news for the first
edition of the newsletter!

At this point it is my opinion only, of course. BFN.

Do you mean notecase pro? It's payware if you want to unlock some export features and use it from several OS devices.
I just suggested the idea. We can try some tools and see which ones are easier to manage.
I'll get a bookmarkos.com account and share it with some of you by pm

What makes puppy, puppy?

How is it different from the majority of other distros?

As per puppylinux.com, to be official it has to be built with Woof-CE. To get the official tick in the box this may be true however, the things that make puppy different are:
1. The layered file system,
2. Frugal installations, and
3. Arguably sfs files.

No I don't mean the Pro version, I mean the freeware version that's included in every version of puppy.

It is kind of a tangent, but to correct something that is wrong.

Debian Dog isn't here because of anything that Debian did. It was started on this forum as Pussy Linux (yeah I know) by forum member Sickgut several years ago. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=69475 Sickgut left and others (Saintless and then Fredx) took over and named it Debian Dog.

While it is not a Puppy and I have no opinion of whether it belongs in a newsletter, it is absolutely a creature of this forum and nowhere else.

I didn't even take a proper look to what comes with Puppy
Maybe the same .ncd file can be synchronized with dropbox? Just a thought

Probably it's faster to bookmark things while browsing the forums.
Besides you can also use other devices without puppy like phones or tablets.
Though your solution may be easier to generate the document, hmmm..

Dancytron and smokey01,

Thanks for teaching me things I did not know, about notecase and the DebianDogs.

@Smokey01
Sounds like a plan... (using notecase)

@kerl
If you know your English and have a logical mind, that's all you need to
be the "editor" of this newsletter. The "old dogs" can provide you with some
content, and you'll learn Puppy as you go.

@oldtimers

If you are volunteering other people, maybe they should know that someone on this tread makes a 'living' doing mush ( ah much ) more in this same niche and in multiple languages.

@kerl, tomorrow I will write a little howto in notecase to demonstrate how easy it is to use.

Attached is a very short example which took me about 5 minutes.

Rename the file by removing the .gz extension.

You can then demonstration how Social Bookmarking works.
