Notecase on Xenial-based distro

#182 Post by 6502coder »

I've used the old free version of Notecase for many years on both Linux and Windows. I've been using it heavily on LXLE, a Lubuntu spin, installing it from the Ubuntu 8 DEB (it's the same Notecase 1.9.8 version that Puppies have). It has worked fine on LXLE 12.04 (which is based on Precise) but I just upgraded to LXLE 16.04 (based on Xenial) and on that platform the old Notecase isn't usable. Pop-up menus don't disappear when you mouse off them, and the Notecase window doesn't refresh properly when it gets covered and then uncovered. Presumably the version of GTK in LXLE 16.04 (gtk 2.24.30) is just too different for the Ubuntu 8 package to work.

So I switched to Notecase PRO, using the free "lite" version, whose feature list seems at least equal to what was in the old Notecase, and this works just fine on LXLE 16.04.

I mention this because I wonder if this problem will similarly affect Puppies based on Xenial.

"you only wanted to work your Puppies in German", "you are a separatist in that you want Germany to secede from Europe" (musher0)

No, but I gave my old drum kit away for free to a music store collecting instruments for refugees!

Thanks RSH. I wasn't sure if the email went out. You should have received two as I sent it a second time. Can you confirm you received two please.

Thanks

Nice February issue!

I think the newsletter, would be noticed more, if it was a link at the top of the forum start page.

I sent a PM to flash, about doing this, but he has provided no answer, yes or no

Some kind person has dropped a nice article into my inbox but they haven't identified themselves.

The article is called "A Slow but steady 'Puppy' journey..." and it's a nice read.
I am only going to publish articles of known authors.

@greengeek is the crossword going to be a regular inclusion?

I need some reviews on software and a distro or two would be appreciated.

How about some female contributions?

Cheers

Yes, it could be if there's room for it. A bit of entertainment can also double as an educational tool. Might be the odd cryptic clue thrown in too...

I think one of the next newsletters should include some hints about the forum use:

How to

- edit a post being already submitted
- create full workable links (URL tag)
- comply with simplest requirements to get support
- avoid contents getting invisible

etc.pp.

Great idea. If you submit it I will include it.

My glass ball already told me you would reply such.

My thoughts about that are based on the last day's experiences trying to give some support to kiramm, which made me very upset. After these experiences I'm in doubt I would be able to write such without getting near to a heart attack.

Just would need some weeks to cool down on that issue.

I'm sure I could manage three of the four items you suggested.

It's a bit quiet in here. March deadline is fast approaching, 7 days.

I got two from you bigpup but they look the same.

If articles are dropped onto the newsletter webpage with the same filename, the older one will be overwritten. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing, yet.

I am still getting it clear on how to submit a item.
Still learning the process and tree structure thing.
I have a bad habit of submitting something and than realizing I forgot something.
The second version was a correction to the first.
Sorry!

I just do not think enough people know about the news letter.
Things may be slow for a few months.

I still think, putting a link at the top of the forum start page, would be the thing to do.
As a topic in Puppy Power, it is a little hard to find.

I asked Flash about doing this, but he never replied back an answer.

Uploaded a submission earlier this evening. Slightly exceeded the word-count limit, which I didn't know about.
