@Pelo

As far as I know, packages like LibreOffice, OpenOffice, some Bowsers and other stuff very often is placed at /opt in Puppy. It's quite easy to get LibreOffice out of the main sfs (don't forget the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications) and to create your own .sfs module. Just remaster the main sfs (either by script or manually) after removing LibreOffice from /opt.

No, but I gave my old drum kit away for free to a music store collecting instruments for refugees!

Some burn Big ISOs, wasting time for useless office suite, after having worked all the week for their boss, with ... Microsoft Office.

Better is that the Puppy-maker offer two versions to people, one big for people needing office applications, and one light with Abiword and Gnumeric for homeworks.
I can bet that Gnumeric will do better than Calc...

Gotcha! Ha!

Wouldn't this being a very nice and kind task to do?

Done by you, Pelo the passenger?

Doing some favourite things to other passengers, to less experienced passengers?

Downloading such big Puppies, removal of those big packages like LibreOffice and re-uploading the smaller versions, that are not published by the original creators?

The one big step forward?

So to say: Pelo, the passenger who facilitates the travels of other passengers!

Modules are the future, aren't they, RSH ?

#19 Post by Pelo »

If ever i would upload One of my Pupplets for public release, i would engage to answer users questions about it.. And a puplet must be creative, not only a copy (plus icons, less Libre Office) , that is not easy for me

RSH... or Lazy Puppy my opinion is to keep Puppies around 150MB with everyday software, and get professionnal software as separate SFS.
Modules are the future, aren't they, RSH ?

Deeper thought : having worked a lot with Musher0 about Business apps i am now quite sure that Puppy users hate office jobs with their computers. No one user ever tried one of wonderfull apps provided (excepted me)
Just install, the technician leave, and let die...

At work, at end of the month, each chief had to fullfill an activity report for the HDQ head quaters. Do you believe they use Puppy at home to finalize that job ???

http://greenpup.altervista.org/
ho aggiornato greenpup

 Well , nice idea
239MB downloading (my wireless still weak, very weak)
"Scaricate da qua il pacchetto libreoffice e quello della traduzione, una volta effettuato il download basta cliccare sul file per installarlo."
Generally, everybody is satisfied with that. Merci :)

LazY Puppy : i Consider that a puppet is like a book. I don't touch it. A puppet ? has something of its creator in it.
if i do it, it will be at home, changing the Kernel if too old for my computer (wireless connection).
Why GreenPup. I ever don't know what is inside (excepted Libre Office) ?
We Miss Italian Puppies. I don' speak italian, but it's so easy to understand. Puppy for me is a way to practice a language, Linux included. Italian is a pleasure, Linux is because user is sometimes obliged to change some lines to make his Puppy run as he wants.

Chromium refused to type french. QtWeb does it

#23 Post by Pelo »

Chromium refused to type french. QtWeb does it, without any change. My purpose is to learn some italian words, that will ease meetings at Milano, when i return there.
Abiword is nice, was nice until 2.9.2 arrived. Choose 2.8.6 ! Don't care about age, In working office they still use old versions.

Pavrecord is still in the menu, raring quickpet provides Xvidcap (downloaded, easier to use). Griffith downloaded from raring packages, via PPM. Well. Griffith is an old tool to manage movies and your videos, but will not edit them. As Python not available, griffith does not do nothing but to be listed in the menu. Wait and see.

About networks, wlan0 works, but wan1 does not. You need a pet from our specialist rcrsn51, if you want to have a journey in Italia with your laptop, to check on the web where to eat, where to bath, where to sleep. Sure you could use your smartphone. But i prefer my computer, because of keyboard.

If you look at Slitaz - it is a very small distro - yet quite functional. However it is only small because it leaves out a lot of wifi firmware etc.

How small would a puppy be if it left out the wifi fware and had it as a separate module/sfs?

@massi76 - does version 3 include libreoffice?
cheers!
