Subject description: Run Pup-SysInfo

Hi marcelo4768,

Sorry to say but I think "you've got your wires crossed." Smile The Samsung SM-A320Y is a smartphone. Please make sure you've posted the correct model number as that is one way we can find out what wifi adapter it uses.

But another way is for you to open Menu>System>Pup-Sysinfo System Information. Click Sys-Specs on its Menu, then Base Report. Scroll down to where it says ">--Network--<". The next two paragraphs show (1st) information about the Ethernet Controller; (2nd) information about the 'Network' Controller. Despite the use of the term 'Network', that's the information about your Wifi we'd need to help you. Include it in your next post.

Totally forgot about 17.10. Correct solution to 17.10 not being able to boot normally is to copy or link /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/getty@tty1.service file to /etc/systemd/system/graphical.target.wants/
As for display managers I recommend slim or lxdm as they actually working and require less resources. With lxdm being preferable since it uses somewhat less ram, like ~5mb less, bit more advanced and not abandoned.

I also suspect that upgrade-kernel is a bit broken in 17.10. There is something weird going on in output during upgrade and system become unbootable afterwards ('mount aufs is failed'). Newly generated vmlinuz is same as old (7.8mb) but initrd.lz is somewhat 15mb (old being 24.8 ) and initrd1.xz also suspiciously small - only 1mb (old is 7.8 ). Can't attach logs and stuff now.

Love you all ❤️ And I'm out celebrating local stuff 🕺🍺

Upgrade-kernel is working in 17.10! Seems like I broke something as tried to upgrade kernel in more or less 'clean' 17.10 and it worked fine! Sorry about that Mr. Green
Might have to rebuild my 17.10 from the scratch:( Crying or Very sad

Thanks Ally, but I see only the first alpha version iso from few months ago at archive.org (which is worthless compared to the recent)

PostPosted: Tue 02 Jan 2018, 08:54    Post subject: How do you install icewm on xenialdog?

I know how to install icewm on xenialpup64, but how do I install it on xenialdog 64bit?

Does xenialdog 64bit have something similar to fixmenus in xenialpup64?

Do you have a .icewm folder in xenialdog 64bit root directory?

In puppy linux, to use icewm, there is /etc/xdg/menus & /etc/xdg/templates, that you have to make some changes to.

Then you have to change /etc/windowmanager to indicate that you are using icewm-session.

Then there is /usr/share/icewm that you might want to make a few changes to.

How is installing icewm in xenialdog 64bit, different from installing icewm in puppy linux?

Does xenialdog 64bit have a themes folder in /usr/share/themes ?

Does xenialdog 64bit have a theme chooser & Desktop Icon Switcher?

What about a Wallpaper Chooser?

Hi keniv, I don't know about gqrx, but to add the ppa repos, just leave out the "-y", so like this: (I tested and works fine)

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bladerf/bladerf
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ettusresearch/uhd
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:myriadrf/drivers
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:myriadrf/gnuradio
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gqrx/gqrx-sdr
sudo apt-get update

The add-apt-repository included in Xenialdog is not the official (it's custom script to save some space), but works in most cases, only it doesn't know about the "-y" option

For info, to install the official add-apt-repository, do in terminal:
Code:
apt-get install software-properties-common

But then you need to remove the included to make the official have prority:
rm -f /usr/local/bin/add-apt-repository

EDIT: Just see you deleted your post, didn't realize question was for 32-bit, but it probably won't make any difference.

@Lassar, many questions, please tell us first what you tried (e.g. installed icewm from Synaptic and...) then maybe we can help.
(but it's not as straightforward as it probably is in xenialpup (preconfigured?), and I don't know much about it)

PostPosted: Mon 08 Jan 2018, 01:16    Post subject: gvfs instead of pup-volume-monitor issue

Hi Fred,

Despite the extra 6MB install size I can't see much if any disadvantage to using gvfs instead of pup-volume-monitor. Only thing is that pcmanfm doesn't show the partition /mnt/home (the partition where the frugal install is) in the left side panel and desktop-drive-icons doesn't show it either. I guess I could add a bookmark /mnt/home to the left side panel of pcmanfm, but wonder if there is any other solution that would make it appear by default anyway you know of (since desktop-drive-icons won't find it still)?

EDIT: I can't add /mnt/home as a bookmark in pcmanfm it seems... I can add bookmark to the actual partition the frugal install is in, but I don't want that solution since then I'd have to manually again change bookmark when other partition being used to boot... Doesn't show up in desktop-drive-icons anyway, though I'm not so bothered about that.
