Battery status monitor - Precise vs Tahrpup ?

Been reading the discussion around battery status monitoring apps around this forum (e.g., http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 2&start=15), mainly because the version that accompanies Tahrpup is not working on my Dell laptop. There is an icon displayed, but it never changes - constantly shows the battery is charging. The version that was packaged with Puppy Precise worked very well and provided a great visual aid showing the % battery power remaining. Does anyone know the name of the battery status app that was packaged with Precise and is it available as a .pet? Can it be used with Tahrpup?

Howdy Mark! The ones from Tahr and Precise are the same. The difference is their kernels.

If you've run "Tahr Updates" from the menu, continue..

Have you got a similar device listing in /proc/acpi/battery/BAT*?

How about this command >> acpi -V

Anything?

This is 32 or 64? You've gotta be specific when posting.

How about this >> dmesg | grep -i acpi

FYI I am working with 32-bit Tahr.

I have two BAT listings under /proc/acpi/battery/BAT*: BAT0 and BAT1. Both folders have three files in them: alarm, info, and state.

Process of elimination suggests you test whether the behavior remains unchanged during a live session.

So, boot your CD.

Once the Pup splash appears, you type: puppy pfix=ram

.. and observe your batteries percentage pop-over.

Behavior between full and frugal installs is odd, and this is a sure-fire way to determine what's what.

Yes, my puppy is a full install on a hard drive.

I fired up the live CD as you suggested and no change - when I hover the cursor over the battery icon it shows "battery charge", same as when I am working off the hard drive.

Based on your above output, three boot parameters I'd try..

acpi=noirq, pci=noacpi and pnpbios=off.. One @ a time of course.

Example: puppy pfix=ram acpi=noirq

Not that I understand everything but, the "address space collision" sounds like an issue.

Pup could also be confused by your battery reads -- two instead on one.

It won't hurt to give these a try..
