What about binaries missing in Debian Stretch packages ?
Bookmarked in my to-do list. I will test Formatting ext4, when New USB received.. and with my Puppy Stretch..
I usually let pendrives FAT32, as received when bought. For Puppy Linux.
What about binaries missing in Debian Stretch packages ? Perhaps done on purpose by Debian to prevent people to use them, as Jessie is still the official repository.

Re: What about binaries missing in Debian Stretch packages ?
The binaries (executables) are not missing, they are present, but they are compiled with an attribute which makes them look like shared libraries when viewed in the file manager. Recent Ubuntu packages are like this too.Pelo wrote:What about binaries missing in Debian Stretch packages?
As discussed earlier in the thread you can change this if you really want to by running elfedit on the binary file:-
Code: Select all
elfedit --input-type=dyn --output-type=exec

Pupjibaro Stretch
es muy facil de hablar francès o espanol
99% de las palabras 'tion' son 'ccion'
More / As Puppies are all the same, in spite of debates, you can use even chinese or japanese ones only with the Icons, so familiar to everybody.
When some hard points, i set the Puppy in English, only for a short while (one or two hours).
puppy is nice to learn (written) foreign idiomas
pupjibaro stretch beta 3. kernel 4.10 Click the blue and jump to the Puppy future
Try Pupjibaro Stretch, josejp2424 succeeded with Wheezy and Jessie. Who could say better ?

Hello, all.
For those who prefer to use alternatives to genisoimage and cdrecord,
I have made available freshly compiled, for DPupStretch-7.0.0, versions of
the very well-designed cdrskin and xorriso CD/DVD/BD utilities by
LibBurnia-associated developer Thomas Schmitt,
here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... ost#960975
and here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... ost#960900.
Please post below any comment or question you may have about them.
Enjoy!

Dpup Stretch
Hello guys,
I'd like to post a few tips for developers to consider, in my opinion and listening to users.
Dpup Wheezy by Pemasu was one of the main OS's I used, but it had too many programs, and that made easy to get lost in the menu. And there were several programs for the same purpose.
Something users want is simplicity.
A minimal number of programs, to build it customized and have a tidier menu.
In my Pupjibaro Stretch. I used PupControl, which is like a Swiss army knife for Puppy. By using this tool I removed a lot of programs from the menu, since I can manage them from there.
Another good tool is jwmdesk, to me it's simple and greatly superior to jwmconfig3.
I don't think Dillo be a good choice for a browser, it's too simple and not easy to manage.
I like JWM with square borders, like Openbox.
If anyone would like to have those borders, compile JWM like this:
Or use this pet compiled for Dpup Stretch:
jwm_stretch-2.3.6.pet.
Ease of use should definitely be something to pursue.
Thanks and sorry for not being able to participate as much as I'd like, since I'm not fluent in English

Hello josejp2424 and rufwoof.
To quote a French proverb: "The pretty girl can only give what she has."
Meaning: however pretty (or not), jwm can only give what it has.
You're missing the point.
The problem is not with jwm, it is with the the organization of the menu
categories in /usr/share/applications and with the way the developer
groups those categories in the menu. The same criticism can be
addressed to any menu of any Window Manager.
Attached is what I did with the jwm menu. Agree or not with my choices,
my personal choices do not matter for this discussion.
What is important for this discussion, IMO, is the way the developer
organizes the main menu in sub-menus for the ease of use and benefit
of the user.
Back in a minute with an illustration.

@José:
Links2 does a much better job than dillo as small browsers go. Dillo is
very limited, by comparison.

The menu that you propose, if you use the locale.pet will not be translated.
el menu jwm que propones , si se utilizara el locale.pet no se traduciria bien.
Hello, José.
What does locale.pet do, please? And... is it necessary to have it?
Without knowing, I will answer "no" to your question.
What I did is I introduced a few French words at the top level by direct
edition of the jwm root menu.
You can do the same kind of edit for Spanish, someone else for English,
etc. Or you can use the replaceit utility to do so according to the content
of ${LANG} from /root/.xinitrc
The rest of the localized titles in the menu are provided by the
Name[language]=blabla
entry in the *.desktop files, if it exists.
I hope this helps.

Ugg! Sorry, Musher0 - not this particular user. I can't stand sub-menus... they are nothing more than an additional ergonomic obstacle in navigating and finding the "target" program - especially on "fast-reacting" menu systems like JWM, where lies the additional potential to accidentally pass the cursor outside of the sub-menu button area while navigating, and lose the menu "pop-up" focus entirely.musher0 wrote:What is important for this discussion, IMO, is the way the developer
