I also compiled 4.9.17 kernel, Haven't tested it yet, been working on the other issues. Not enough hrs in the day, Next 2 weeks will be tough, my wife has to go to Australia, to see her mother, She only found her mother has Cancer a month ago and now it looks like her mother might have 1 week left. So the two weeks I'll be working 10hr days, making meals for the 2 kids etc, But I'll still have a few hours at nights and weekends.

Family first, ttuuxxx. For now, think of Puppy as an escape from unsolvable problems if and when you need it.

Convey our sympathy to your wife.

Hi Ttuuxxx and others,

Have tested latest ISO on my Emachines E625 only found one bug xcalc crashes xserver - which doesn't happen with my usual Tahr 6.05 install on said machine. Thanks for a nice release otherwise.:)

I'm sure that xcalc bug has cropped up before. I think it was just a particular version - I'll try and find the related posts.

Who needs an octopus for a mascot!!! Dogs are famous for their stretches!
The position of the Dog in yoga is even named after the way dogs stretch.

If I may, keef, I think it's because xcalc is not included in the woof-CE for DpupStretch...

Here you go! BFN.

Hi all,

Can I make a suggestion?

Is there anyway possible to make Radky's FbBox4.0- fbpanel + Openbox desktop environment the "Default" in woof-CE builds---at least for these dpup-stretch builds?

My Gawd, FbBox is beautiful, intuitive, and stable. No wonder Billtoo keeps mentioning it when he's posting his installs. Quite frankly, imho, FbBox blows JWM off the desktop--especially in terms of functionality. The easy-to-use popup menus for configuration of anything possible on the desktop are incredible. I sat and watched my wife this evening navigate her way through setting up (using a frugal install of my dpup with FbBox as the default) every little desktop thing she wanted with no problems. This was never possible with JWM....jwm stumbles on a lot of the small things.

I am seriously considering chucking JWM completely in the next ISO I am uploading of dpup-stretch-700-DELUXE this week. After 3 straight days of using fbBox-4.0. I am still astounded at it.

P.S. Thanks, Musher, for the xcalc!!

Hi belham2,

Thanks for your comments about FbBox. I'm pleased you find it useful. 8)

Even so, please keep in mind the standard JWM desktop is a long-standing feature of Puppy and its selection as the default environment is based on flexibility and ease of use. The Woof-CE team is doing a great job.

For those who enjoy alternative desktops, there are many available and FbBox is only one option. Variety contributes greatly to Puppy's popularity. :)

Woof CE Debian Stretch and Devuan Ascii Based Development

I did a new build which is using the 4.10.6 kernel compiled with the woof-CE kernel kit.

System: Host: puppypc23877 Kernel: 4.10.6-4G i686 (32 bit) Desktop: JWM 2.3.6 Distro: Dpup Stretch 7.0.0a1
Machine: Device: desktop System: Compaq-Presario product: AU194AA-A2L CQ5123F serial: MXX9300M0F
Mobo: MSI model: Boston v: 1.0 BIOS: Phoenix v: 5.24 date: 06/19/2009
CPU: Dual core Pentium E5200 (-MCP-) speed/max: 1200/2500 MHz
Graphics: Card: NVIDIA GF108 [GeForce GT 430]
Display Server: X.org 1.19.2 drivers: nouveau (unloaded: modesetting, fbdev, vesa)
tty size: 117x30 Advanced Data: N/A for root
Network: Card: Realtek RTL8101/2/6E PCI Express Fast/Gigabit Ethernet controller driver: r8169
Drives: HDD Total Size: 500.1GB (9.3% used)
Info: Processes: 152 Uptime: 1:29 Memory: 161.2/3153.3MB Client: Shell (bash) inxi: 2.3.5

It has missing items in the tray but the info is displayed with
gkrellm.
I didn't have the devx loaded when installing applications so some of the applications show up as shared libraries, but Vlc works :)

Having a few problems with openvpn-2.4.1
Debian Stretch has openssl 1.1 and openssl 1.0.2 in the repos and this Puppy seems to be set up with both, but with the 1.1 DEV package.
Openvpn refuses to compile against 1.1 but if I remove this and install only the 1.0.2 libraries (libcrypto and libssl) and headers (DEV .deb) then openvpn compiles.

However, I can not run openvpn because /dev/net/tun is missing, in fact there is no /dev/net directory so I wonder what the (networking?) problem is.
EDIT:- Looks like tun is a kernel module and modprobe tun loads it successfully and openvpn then works.

I have this openvpn-2.4.1 compiled and working in earlier Puppies Wheezy, Slacko 5.7 and Precise.
