I did another build, this one is using the 3.16.43 kernel compiled with
the kernel kit.

The proprietary Nvidia driver is installed.

All installed applications show up as shared libs, kodi,vlc, etc work
well.

I've seen a few desktop pictures like yours Billtoo, extra wide. Is that because you have a extra wide monitor/resolution (3200x900 perhaps)? Looks like it from your 4 desktops in the desktop pager.

Hi,

I'm using 2 monitors, configured with arandr.
JWM defaults to 4 desktops, I just now changed the setting to 2 virtual
desktops.

The configuration methods are changed in these recent JWM versions
Some of the tags are different so the jwmrc-theme file and also the jwmrc template file in /etc/xdg/templates need modification. Not sure if this has been done in WoofCE yet.
Use jwm -p to test for config errors.

Dpup Stretch has JWM 2.3.6 which is latest release but I have compiled snapshot 1592 which is 2.3.7 dev.

I did some corrections and tweaks to the DeepBlueBold theme which was the only one included in the .iso and I implemented the decorations="motif" attribute which gives it a look which some may find quite elegant.

Such patience you have with jwm, OscarTalks...

Where did you find that 3.14.63 kernel for the Puppy Stretch, please? I
couldn't find it in the "huge-kernels" section at ibblio.

Also, I just built the newer Puppy Stretch, like you did, and it seems to offer
only the 4.1.38 kernel.

You need to compile it with the kernel kit, I'll attach my build.conf to save you some time.
Once it has created the woof-CE/kernel-kit/output/huge-3.16.43-stretch.tar.bz2 put it in the huge_kernel folder and when you get to the ./3builddistro step it will use it, if there are more it will be among those that you can choose from.

The gz is a fake, just rename it.
It will also compile the kernel source sfs and a kernel modules file that I rename to fdrv_stretch_i686.sfs

Edit: you'll see j6 in the build.conf when I'm using my dual core compaq I set that to j2

Do you by any chance have the kernel sources for this?
It might be nice to see if I can at least compile ndiswrapper for example.

Hi,

I did 3.16.43, that's the LTS kernel that's good until 2020 or so.

I think you can get the 3.14.79 kernel sources from ttuuxxx.

Maybe I am getting confused. I thought the one I am using is the one in your smokey01.com/Bill2 repo, posted on 25th Feb. Is that one 3.16.43 ?

I thought the first one I tried was an early ttuuxxx but it had the permissions issue so I grabbed your one. Have you never done a 3.14.79 Stretch? I can't see anything 3.14.79 in ttuuxxx's repo, only 4.1.38

Sorry, I'd forgotten about the one on Smokey01 server, I've done at least 14 builds with various kernels but that's the only one that I posted and I don't have the kernel sources for it.

Ah, OK, thanks for checking into it anyway. At some point I expect I will move to a different build or maybe experiment with swapping kernels or something.

Hello Billtoo trying your 3-14-79 build and so far it is working well on my Emachines E625 where as the later kernel builds give irregular boot to black screen problems. Will report back.

Yes a good question - this problem has been driving me nuts.

Ok symptom as mentioned boots to a black screen randomly.

Pups which I have tried which give this behavior:

Tahrpup, Debian Stretch all versions - even Billtoo's with the 3.14.79 kernel.

Pups that don't seem to exhibit this behavior

Slacko 5.7 (8Gee's version) and 5.6 slacko - the latest I seem to be able to run.

Currently running Lucid 5.11 without incident and have also run Fluppy 013, Lucid 5.25 and Slacko 5.31 and Wary 5.1.4.1.

As an aside, On modern Debian Distros when booting on this machine I get "Mp-bios bug:8254 timer not connected to io-apic" message

This Dpup Stretch has GPicView as the image viewer which seems OK.
If you prefer Viewnior here is 1.6 which I compiled.
