I've got one of those: HP Pavilion dm1

Works well with many newer Linux distros, as well as many Puppy and Quirky.(with just a few quirks)

Like bigpup said, after adjusting touchpad settings, touchpad works fine for one, two and three finger taps.(for left, right, center mouse clicks)

Only issue I found with Slacko 6.3.2, not observed elsewhere, is distorted sound. Have not looked into that one.

Temp success with Wary 5.5, by blacklisting invalid modules, but somehow lost it again--could be hardware? these dm1's are known kbrd/mouse failable. I can use it with external kbrd & mouse, but that ties up 2 of my 3 usb ports, and the 3rd is for usb modem. affordable ideas pls, other than toss it?

From HP support.
After all this research I sent my laptop in to HP after explaining I already restored my unit multiple times and installed the latest touchpad/keyboard drivers with no luck. HP replaced my motherboard and now it works fine. I also suspected that heat was related (and maybe it is in relation to the old MB) because it appeared as the more I used it the worse it got (and faster it would break). I've been using my laptop for days now and it's been fine so it definitely appears to be a MB issue.
Several people say replacing the motherboard fixed it.

You could use a virtual keyboard.

There are several versions of xvkbd Virtual keyboard here:

There are several versions of the program posted in this topic.
Version 3.7 pet worked for me in Tahrpup 6.0.5.

no touchpad, so virt kbrd not much use on small screen-will price new mobo. will also try a usb hub and the usb eth0 with a mini wifi kbrd/touchpad powered off the etho port-will need some soldering, but should be easy. will need 1 diode to drop the 5V to 4.3V to provide power for kbrd combo. Have to watch power consumptions.
