Subject description: Pburn is a front end, but I could no find the programs it uses

When using Pburn to write a CD, I noticed it is just a menu driven front end to CDR tools.
What I want to know is where are the executable CDR tools files (at least mkisofs
and cdrecord) it uses.
I could not find them, neither by browsing the bin directories, nor by performing a search.

Try "which cdrecord" via terminal. cdrdao's available separately. growisofs should be onboard.

Also you might have done better to post your question in the Pburn topic.

In Tahrpup 6.0.6 those files are in /usr/bin

Use Pfind to do a search.
Make sure you have it selected to search system files

Example:
cdrecord

At least in the Racy Puppy version I have, these entries
in /usr/bin are not files, but symbolic links to wodim (cdrecord)
and genisoimg (mkisofs).
Does this mean that the actual CDRtools are not available
natively in Racy Puppy ?

It looks like there are other tools being used.
As you say, cdrecord is a symbolic link to wodim.

Remember, Wary and Racy were developed under Quirky, which was Barry's play toy.
He was trying all kinds of different things.

It seems the CDRtools are just not going to be the exact same tools as in a normal Puppy.

You could look for the same names, but it will symbolic link you to a different program, that does the same thing.

Where can I find a copy of the CDRTools that would run under Puppy?
Joerg Schilling has, for as long as I know, provided only the sources,
so CDRTools are a "compile yourself" set of programs. This is beyond
my (very small) programming abilities.

The Slacko series of Puppies have genuine cdr-tools like cdrecord. You may be able to pull them out of a Slacko and drop them into Racy.

Which operations can't you do with the tools available in Racy?

I believe the pBurn that comes with Racy uses cdrkit utilities and should all work. If you upgrade pBurn to the latest version it requires the later cdrtools-3 utilities package.

Here is cdrtools-3.02a07 compiled in Racy 5.5
This source package installs binaries under /opt/schily which is not a recognised path in Puppy, so before creating the .pet I manually moved things into the standard /usr/bin (and /usr/sbin). I have used this configuration for ages in my Puppies and never had any problems. As always though treat it as a test and make provisions for reversal before installing.

Oh, by the way, latest pBurn 4.3.16 also requires gtkdialog 0.8.4 r514

Just installing that should work but as a precaution delete the extra gtkdialog symlink in /usr/sbin as we should not have 2 files named gtkdialog anyway.
