How to find additional application software for Slacko?

#1 Post by Fijifutschi »

Hello,

well, sometimes you don't find a up to date application software on the Puppy Package manager.

Somebody can tell me how to easy add new repositories.
The describtion of Berry is very detailed and a little confusing
to follow for Beginners. Also how to find the new repos addresses.

So somebody can write a GUI application to search for repos and make puppy package manager able to install applications inclusive dependencies (like sysnaptic/Debian).

Also if the requested application is not found or not works after a try of installation somebody could develop a loadable Debianization package inkl. nececcary libraries (.pet or .sfs) so that synaptic can be used on puppy

However according to Berry Debian, Arch, Ubuntu packages already work on Puppy.
But it looks sometimes dependecies are missing and the application of other distros do not work.

I use Slacko 6.3.0 , Some Debian and Ubuntu packages work already some not. Can't download Sackware application software of internet. Somebody
can give me a manual ?

As you are using Slacko maybe you should consider this: https://slackbuilds.org/

At first it looks a bit over whelming but read the HOWTO, it will be worth it. It's much easier than you think.

You just need to download the DEVX and load it. This is where all your development files are kept, EG the compiler.

Have fun.
