There were a couple of reports about the PupRadio app not working.

Use "petget" and install "mpv" DEB -- it shows as already installed, but actually it isn't (only its library is installed, as required by Gnome-MPV). Do a search in petget and you will see it listed -- click on it and install it.

I got streaming radio to work, but none of the tv urls work.

Which makes me wonder, do we really need the PupTV part of Pupradio? There are so many video streaming services via the browser, what is the point of having PupTV?

Maybe I should remove the PupTV section out of Puprado?

I use radiotray instead of pupradio. Radiotray is part of debian repository and can be downloaded with petget.
With radiotray you can add/remove easily radio streams.
I don't use pupradio which I removed from easyos.

Barry,

Thanks for the response.

I just tried that on one I have created, which deletes the whole container structure for the item from /mnt/sdb2/containers. I only want to remove the launcher from the desktop, I still want to use the containers.
@Terry
And you've tried deleting them as I sugested before, remastering the EasyOS directly afterwards and then rebooting into the newly remastered system I take it.

Maybe alternately try going into the /usr/share/applications folder and rename the desktop files you want to dissapear (I tend to change it to "name.org" so I know which i'm dealing with in case I want to go backwards later) and then reboot. It shouldn't be picked up then and displayed on a reboot, but I don't know what else would be effected or what error messages would appear as I haven't tried it in a container system.

And running fixmenus from the console to clean out the menu system of course after doing your changes.
Thanks once again for taking time to assist.

Remastering would not assist my desire to not have icons displayed on the desktop. I identified my issue as occurring when X is started (boot, reboot or restart-X). The following extract from .xinitrc (lines 84-86) will generate icons for containerized-applications regardless of how desktop setup is desired (desktopsetup.sh?). I have commented out line 86 and no longer have the icons displayed on the desktop. I have included icons for the easy containerized apps in my second launcbar tray.

Code: Select all

#180409 easyos, check containerized-apps still on desktop...
#note, created in /usr/local/easy_containers/easy-containers, but session-wipe may remove desktop icons.
[ -x /usr/local/easy_containers/ec-fix-desktop ] && /usr/local/easy_containers/ec-fix-desktop

So, after my post of a few days ago I thought I should ... experiment
I have found a serious mismatch, uname -a ,, ls /lib/modules ,, so obviously modprobe mt7601u fails
Most curious, running my refind multi-iso stick under vbox, it finds easyos-persistant-iso,,
it does NOT on bare metal
This is easy-2.1-en.iso ,, 516.0 MiB (541,065,216)
specifically
# ls -l /lib/modules/
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 284 Aug 8 02:09 5.1.15
# uname -a
Linux EASYPC17154 5.2.7 #1 SMP Fri Aug 9 18:41:38 AWST 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

This is saved in the persistant, running under vbox
(copy and paste doesn't seem to work, out of the VM, maybe because root)

thank you for implementing the very useful new boot-up features!

As far as I can see, so far, nobody reported on a problem which I'm faced with when trying to update the petget PM.

While reporting "Processing-debian-buster_updates-main into a standard format ... " the update process always seems to hang indefinitely. A bug?

kind regards

lp-dolittle
Thanks for the report. Fixed, see blog post:

Pup TV

#1748 Post by Rodney Byne »

To Barry,

perhaps there is one good reason why Pup TV could be kept.

This streaming live demo proves that perfect picture quality is possible
without using the web browser.

To set things up;

First see if mpv can be made to show in the little bottom right box,
which means hi-def 720p pictures will be displayed.

Now if you use default button one in the down selector and
enter the name Bloomberg in the left-hand white box
and then copy/paste the following url string into the right-hand box
and play now to test, you should see a direct studio feed
from New York, showing markets, stocks & interviews etc.

https://liveproduseast.akamaized.net/us ... _live.m3u8

If the feed plays, then press save and Bloomberg will show after
pressing button one.

Interviews are conducted between NY on screen left and Washington,
London or elsewhere on screen right with company CEOs etc.

Share price rises (green) and falls (red) around the world are
frequently shown in real time.

Enjoy.

Do you mean it won't boot? That is a BIOS problem, a PCIe USB-adaptor card is not recognised at early bootup. That is a common problem, not just for EasyOS.

If you have a USB2 socket on the motherboard, you have to use that.

Errr.. Barry,,I am not sure why you have not pulled/updated easy-2.1-en.iso
A release with mismatched kernel/modules is pretty much useless

Thanks for reporting that. I have also had that happen to me, but then the problem went away, and I never chased up the cause.

Running any version of EasyOS, if you click on 'easy-2.1-en.iso', it will open up in a ROX-Filer window. Then click on 'easy.sfs' and that will open in another window.

For proper housekeeping, you need to close them up by clicking on 'easy.sfs' then on 'easy-2.1-en.iso', that is, in the reverse order.

When 'easy.sfs' is opened, you will see that the modules are there, matching the kernel version.

Easy Containers GUI improved

#1756 Post by scsijon »

What about covering the condition where someone wants to run a video dvd from a suspect source in a container. So they want video and audio, but don't want internet and want maximum security as they don't know what else may be embeded on the dvd, such as external reporting and ID linking.

Maybe i'm getting paranoid again, but it happened in the past and could easily happen again.

Hotspot internet acces

#1757 Post by blgs »

I'm currently on holiday and would lik to test easyos in an unsecure environment. Staying in a hotel and asked for the wifi code.
Booted up in copy- to- RAM mode.
Entering the wifi code and then nothing. Also applicable in the normal mode.
I discoverd it's a hotspot internet access. Not available in easyos??
Hotspot access with my smartphone is working.

Ah, I think that I see what is happening. Where you have the 'easyos-persistent-iso', the files there were created for an earlier version of EasyOS.

If you look there, there is a folder named '.session' and it probably has /lib/modules/5.1.15 -- and, most importantly, a aufs whiteout file named something like '..wh..opaque*' -- can't recall the exact format.

What that whiteout file is doing is blocking the 5.2.7 in the lower easy.sfs layer.

Don't know how that whiteout file could have got there, but I will check the code at bootup.

Try using the network-manager-applet. In the PPM, click the 'pet-buster' radiobutton, then do a search for 'network-manager-applet'

Or, just grab it directly:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/easyos/amd64/ ... ster64.pet

All dependencies already installed.

You need to restart JWM and it should appear in the tray.

It can also be started in a terminal, I think the executable is 'nm-applet'.

Edit:
I remember once at a library, the library hotspot was on 5MHz and was not recognised by the wifi on my laptop.

Problem solved.

The additional network-manager was already installed.

A hotspot internet access is open for everyone (no passwrd required and therefore extremely unsecure).
But I filled in my userid as wpa passwrd. That won't work. My mistake.
So, I changed the security setting from wpa to none and internet access was activated.

After asking the reception the activation website to activate my account I've got internet.

One thing disturbs me. In the taskbar it is not visible that internet is activated and in operation.
Only a red cross through the icon meaning no internet but internet is in full operation.
Propose to change it with additional text "hotspot" or "unsecure internet". Although I'm in copy-to-RAM mode.
