Frugal Install w/ Grub4dos from a Linux Operating System

#1 Post by mikeslr »

Hi All,

As the method can be used with most Puppies, this is a link to a discussion posted on the DebianDog HowTo thread. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 077#950077. It is primarily for creating a bootable USB-Key, but can easily be changed to create a Frugal Install on a Hard-drive, however:

Warning:

1. If you have a functioning OS already and intend to keep it, over-writing the mbr is probably not advisable and it is certainly easier to just add Puppy or DebianDog the Grub menu.

2. If your computer requires a UEFI or EFI boot --e.g. Windows 10 and Macs-- see this thread: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 159#858159.

3. Some --not many-- Puppies have specific install instructions, usually discussed in the release notes or on the first few posts to such Puppies thread. The technique on the linked post is not an alternative.
