Hi sszindian,

Not to diminish in anyway the great work Sailor Enceladus does --I frequently use and recommend his slacko 5.7.1. But we should not forget that 01micko published the original version of slacko-700 --as he had done with all slackos-- solving those problems inherent with any original creation; and, AFAIK, for a long time spear-headed the improvements to woof, the building tool used to create any Puppy.

This update fixes a security issue:
Submodules' "URL"s come from the untrusted .gitmodules file, but we
blindly gave it to "git clone" to clone submodules when "git clone
--recurse-submodules" was used to clone a project that has such a
submodule. The code has been hardened to reject such malformed URLs
(e.g. one that begins with a dash). Credit for finding and fixing this
vulnerability goes to joernchen and Jeff King, respectively.

This install started out as slacko64-6.9.9.9-uefi-k3.16-PM-LO.iso

I did all the Update notices - Slackware bugfixes, wasn't happy with the result so changed the kernel.

I wonder if we should have a "slacko contribute thread". Anyway, in this regards I created the following pet:

mercurial-3.7-x86_64.pet which I built in Slacko64-6.9.9.9. This is an older version then is available on the puppy package manager. I did so because a mercurial plugin that I wanted to use requires an older version of mercurial.

It's working okay, I added JWMDesk Manager.
Also changed from a dual monitor setup to one larger monitor.

Also changed the kernel and installed JWMDesk Manager, some other
applications with PPM as well.

Only problem is I have to run the network wizard each boot to setup the
wireless connection, that's not a deal breaker for me.

Easier than Woof-ce I think

EDIT: SNS connects to wireless every bootup.

My ZyXel G-202 usb wireless adapter did not work on the 64 bit versions
(dunno about the 32 bit) of Slackopup. The last part of the error

I decided to try copying lib/firmware/zd1211 folder from xenialpup64 to
slacko, and that fixed the problem. There was no such folder in slacko.

The problem exists in all slackopup64 6.9.9.9 (including Sailor's) versions
having various kernels. It even exists on earlier (64 bit) versions.

not all available firmware is installed by default to keep the ISO size as small as possible.
A lot of firmware is install able via package manager.

Fun with Slacko64:

I downloaded slacko64-6.9.9.9-uefi-k4.4-FF-LO.iso,installed it to a
32gb SDHC card,updated PPM and applied all the updates and Slackware
bugfixes.
Was running on an older i3 pc with intel graphics, didn't like it much
so I put the SDHC card in an adapter and tried to boot it on this dual
core, wouldn't boot

Booted up Dpup Stretch 7.5 CE (RC-3), used it to copy the contents of
the SDHC card to the first partition of an usb-3.0 SSD, ran grub4dos on
the SSD,booted up on this pc,reran internet connection setup and sound
setup,changed kernel,installed proprietary Nvidia driver.

It has Palemoon 28.1 and Abi/Gnumeric in the adrv and kernel 4.9 with linux-firmware (default options) in zdrv.

I updated this to the latest woof-CE and 4.9 kernel yesterday. It seems to work mostly as good as the last iso on this machine from what I can tell so far.

It has been a while since I tried to woof slacko32 14.2, it seems the iso I had is exactly one years old

Both my Atom Netbooks are running woofed Slacko 14.0 builds but am at my parents now for Christmas with my dad's 64-bit capable Core2Duo. I saw that norgo has been making a few 32-bit isos too since so I tried 32-bit slacko-current for a while instead, until every browser in it seemed to require gtk3. Perhaps norgo can provide a link to their iso?

Or maybe I can try another later.

On the 64-bit iso (r6717) I did encounter a freeze last night with jwm on the Core2Duo Intel Graphics laptop and had to Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. I assume recompiling jwm 2.3.6 with the fix here would eliminate it again. Also I wanted to try the program "Download Chrome, Vivaldi, or Opera" in Setup and it said I wasn't connected to the internet, even though browsing in Palemoon is working. Did anyone else have this issue? I imagine these things would affect 32-bit builds too but would have to test.

Hi Sailor. Thank you for the update on slacko64.
I think you went to a newer version of the 4.9 kernel, but I still have the hanging for a minute or more before getting to X.
I reported it in octobre. Remember. I stil can't find why it happens.

Download a browser - error

yes I already detected this error but I thought this a regional problem.

The reason and solution for this:

dl_browser.sh gets information whether Internet connection is established or not from check_Internet
/usr/sbin/check_internet is pinging www.duckduckgo.com
unfortunately this always fails

solution:
open /usr/sbin/check_internet with an editor and change line 11

from www.duckduckgo.com to www.google.com ( as example )

now browser download should work again

I compiled a gtk2 version of seamonkey 2.49.4 ( only german language )
you could download this version and install the desired xpi language pack
seamonkey-2.49.4.en-GB.langpack.xpi

My latest 32 bit version of slacko 700 is from 2018-10-04
but I'm not at home to upload at the moment, so be patient
