@Sailor Enceladus:

I can't remember if you woofed -- or not -- a slacko 32-bit from the
slackware-14.2 repos...

I tried to find it in this bazaar of a forum and couldn't...

Could you please confirm? Or contradict?
If positive, could you please provide a link? TIA

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

Hi musher0,

Merry Christmas to you too! :D

It has been a while since I tried to woof slacko32 14.2, it seems the iso I had is exactly one years old  Both my Atom Netbooks are running woofed Slacko 14.0 builds but am at my parents now for Christmas with my dad's 64-bit capable Core2Duo. I saw that norgo has been making a few 32-bit isos too since so I tried 32-bit slacko-current for a while instead, until every browser in it seemed to require gtk3. Perhaps norgo can provide a link to their iso? :) Or maybe I can try another later.

On the 64-bit iso (r6717) I did encounter a freeze last night with jwm on the Core2Duo Intel Graphics laptop and had to Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. I assume recompiling jwm 2.3.6 with the fix here would eliminate it again. Also I wanted to try the program "Download Chrome, Vivaldi, or Opera" in Setup and it said I wasn't connected to the internet, even though browsing in Palemoon is working. Did anyone else have this issue? I imagine these things would affect 32-bit builds too but would have to test.

Hi Sailor. Thank you for the update on slacko64.
I think you went to a newer version of the 4.9 kernel, but I still have the hanging for a minute or more before getting to X.
I reported it in octobre. Remember. I stil can't find why it happens.

Download a browser - error

yes I already detected this error but I thought this a regional problem.

The reason and solution for this:

dl_browser.sh gets information whether Internet connection is established or not from check_Internet
/usr/sbin/check_internet is pinging www.duckduckgo.com
unfortunately this always fails

solution:
open /usr/sbin/check_internet with an editor and change line 11

from www.duckduckgo.com to www.google.com ( as example )

now browser download should work again

I compiled a gtk2 version of seamonkey 2.49.4 ( only german language )
you could download this version and install the desired xpi language pack
seamonkey-2.49.4.en-GB.langpack.xpi

My latest 32 bit version of slacko 700 is from 2018-10-04
but I'm not at home to upload at the moment, so be patient

I downloaded and installed slacko-6.9.9.9-uefi-k4.4-PAE-PM-LO.iso to
the hard drive of my Lenovo ThinkCentre desktop.
Updated PPM and applied all the Update notices - Slackware bugfixes
Added applications with PPM + compiled latest Smplayer/Smtube
Changed kernels,installed proprietary Nvidia driver:

This method worked well on this pc, doesn't always work well, can be a
total waste of time, must have time to spare (potenially waste)

I used the burst mode of tas to get the screenshot, picked best of 6

Hi norgo.

I do not know German. I do not know what the items in the menu mean.
Could you kindly explain to me the steps to follow to install the language pack?

Thank you in advance.

@musher0
1. download seamonkey-2.49.4-de-slk700-i686.pet and install it
2. download seamonkey-2.49.4.en-GB.langpack.xpi ( example ) and save it in a folder
3. launch seamonkey
4. choose "Datei" -> "Datei öffnen ..." -> navigate to download folder, select the xpi language package and click open
5. now a notification window will appear "Software Installation ist deaktiviert, klicken Sie auf Aktivieren und versuchen Sie es erneut " => click the button "Aktivieren"
6. now software installation is activated => rerun step number 4
7. software installation window should appear now => click "Jetzt installieren" button
8. click "Bearbeiten" -> "Einstellungen ..." => "Erscheinungsbild" select desired language
9. restart seamonkey

Hello all.

Please find attached vorbis-tools-1.4.0 (most recent as of this writing)
compiled expressly for slacko-700. Contents:

Code: Select all

[/mnt/sda7/vo...00/usr/bin]>lg -1 --file-type
total 264
-rwxr-xr-x 1 84752 déc 30 23:50 ogg123
-rwxr-xr-x 1 13996 déc 30 23:50 oggdec
-rwxr-xr-x 1 68436 déc 30 23:50 oggenc
-rwxr-xr-x 1 34580 déc 30 23:50 ogginfo
-rwxr-xr-x 1 17952 déc 30 23:50 vcut
-rwxr-xr-x 1 30540 déc 30 23:50 vorbiscomment
The Vorbis Tools contain the ogg123 ogg audio file player and various
supporting en|de|coding and info|comment (aka "tagging") utilities.

To reattach the split files, open a console in the download dir. and type:

Code: Select all

cat x?-vorb*.pet > vorbis-tools-140_slacko-700.pet
Then issue command

Code: Select all

petget vorbis-tools-140_slacko-700.pet
or double-click on it.

Enjoy

Hello all.

To NOT display the message:
"WARNING: terminal not fully functional"
in slacko-700, when using the less text reader and a
couple of other CLI utilities, open a console and type:

Code: Select all

cd /usr/share/terminfo/r
ln -s rxvt $PWD/rxvt-unicode
Also make sure that the TERM variable in both /etc/profile AND in
/root/.bashrc is set as

Code: Select all

export TERM=rxvt
.
I wasted half a day researching this bug. I still can't explain the technical
reason, but it has to do with an utility called < tput >, which I had never
heard of. This article had the key to the solution.

Anyway, search duckduckgo all you want for linux "WARNING: terminal is
not fully functional"; it's "tput" you have to look for.

IHTH.

Hello again, people.

We might as well bring on board the most recent less as of this
writing, v. 530. I added the correction above in this pet.

I compiled it expressly for slacko-700, with the very simple and usual

Code: Select all

./configure --prefix=/usr
To view the help file for less, one types:

Code: Select all

less --help
or presses h if already viewing a text file.

It works fine on slacko-700. You are welcome to test it on other Pups.

The official site's short Changes file for this version is included in this pet
under /usr/share/doc/less.

Enjoy!

Hello again.

This was definitely needed! I mean a small and nimble browser for
slacko-700! So here you go: please download and install all three items
in the following directory:
http://augras.eu/puppy_linux/?dir=mushe ... slacko-700
There is of course links-2.17, the latest as of this writing. Slackware repos
have v. 2.12, ha!

Compiled expressly for slacko-700, with this config formula:
./configure --prefix=/usr --mandir=/usr/share/man --enable-graphics
---------------------------------------------------------
Configuration results:
Event handler: LIBEVENT
IPv6: YES
Supported compression: BZIP2 LZMA
SSL support: OPENSSL
UTF-8 terminal: YES
GPM support: YES
Graphics enabled: YES
Graphics drivers: FB X
Image formats: GIF PNG XBM JPEG
OpenMP: YES
---------------------------------------------------------
The other two archives are required by links, slacko-700 did not provide
them ex-factory.

Enjoy!
You can now pass GO and collect $200! ;) (Those will have to be CAD$,
but still!)

Trying out the latest version of Slackware (very nice) but require Transmission 2.93 or higher for my e-book provider. I have spent 2.5 frustrating hours but am not a coder. PLEASE HELP?

Hello Fishy.

You wish was my command! You can pick up < transmission-2.94 >
-- the latest version as of this writing -- compiled for slacko-6999 at
http://augras.eu/puppy_linux/?dir=musher0/Slacko-700.
(Pls look at the bottom of the list.)

Important: this build might not work on other Pups.

The source code for this v.2.94 can be found on github.

The configuration formula I used is:
./configure --enable-static=no --enable-cli -enable-nls --enable-lightweight --enable-daemon --with-gtk --prefix=/usr

Resulting Configuration:
Source code location: .
Compiler: g++
Build libtransmission: yes
* optimized for low-resource systems: yes
* µTP enabled: yes
* crypto library: openssl
Build Command-Line client: yes
Build GTK+ client: yes
* libappindicator for an Ubuntu-style tray: no
Build Daemon: yes
Build Mac client: no
This is a 32-bit version: I hope it'll fit the bill?
I've compiled it on slackster-700, a slacko-6999 derivative, which uses the
same devx for compiling.

Various --
-- This package is multilingual; the international locales have their own
pet archive if you need them.

-- I trimmed the desktop file down to a "version 1.0". The original had
multiple entries that confused my icewm menu. It probably would have
done the same on the menu of the jwm WM, so I took no chances. I have
attached a zip of the original desktop file, should you prefer that one, and
it plays nice with your menu.

-- Execs were stripped with the usual < strip --strip-unneeded >.

-- I've attached a screen capture.

-- If petget refuses to install this version, erase or rename the "index
card" named "transmission" at directory /var/packages/builtin_files, and
retry.

Seems to work fine over here. Keep me posted?

TWYL.
