What aps did these puppies include? Perhaps the aps can be found on the puppy package manager. If you think it is useful for puppy to have these aps out of the box and maybe do a remaster and offer the remastered ISO to other people. Or pehaps a better solution is to combine the aps into one lage sfs and offer that to other people. Not that you can download pets from the puppy package manager without installing them. There are tools to convert pets to sfs files and tools to combine sfs files.

Hello Max Headroom.

Just trying to clear up some confusion.

I did a search on "Webmaster Tools" and found Google Webmaster Tools and Bing
Webmaster Tools. Proprietary territory; oops.

This is a search on "Free Webmaster Tools" through the ask.com engine:
https://www.ask.com/web?q=Free+Webmaste ... &o=0&l=dir

There is a site called "Webmaster Tips" with this page:
http://www.webmaster-tips.net/Webmaster ... Tools.html

A search for "Free Website Development Tool" on the same engine comes up with:
https://www.ask.com/web?o=0&l=dir&qo=se ... pment+Tool

I did not read any of those pages in any detail, but it seems a lot of those tools
are available on the Net.

"Just saying"; I'm not taking sides. For everyone's information. Maybe some or all
of these tools should be in a dedicated Puppy -- maybe not.

In any case, Gimp doesn't seem to be considered a "Free Website Development Tool".
It's an image editor, you know.

I personally would consider any html editor as a Website Development Tool.
(Kompozer, Arachnea, that sort of app.) But mtpaint? Nah. ;)

To conclude, I'll say that this thread has lots of potential.

BFN.

Yes, as musher0 says, there are the mozilla-based WYSIWYG HTML editors. Many pups have SeaMonkey, which has the Compozer editor.

But, if you are looking more for a complete CMS (Content Management System) for a complete website, there are lots of choices. There is a website that collects static site generators, a particular type of CMS... yes, here it is;

https://www.staticgen.com/

....though, they are saying that a CMS is something distinct from a static site generator ...though I don't really see the difference.

Anyway, I have developed one to:

http://bkhome.org/shellcms/

shellCMS uses SeaMonkey Compozer, so is right at home in our pups. It also requires 'rsync', which most pups have. My Quicky and Easy Linuxes are tested to run shellCMS.

shellCMS is just one way of doing it, strictly for off-line development, and generation of static web pages. This has limitations, but also some advantages.

My bkhome.org is managed by shellCMS, not a fancy site, but does the job.

Thanks, Barry, for clearing up some more confusion about Web Content Management.

Do you think you could provide Puppyists with a pet of your shellcms utility? Or do
you wish to use your author's prerogative and limit its distribution for now?

@all:
Some additional info if I may:
Little known, there is an html editor in apacheOpenOffice and LibreOffice that has
all the editing features of Writer. You will not find in it all the refinements that some
advanced html editors offer, but it lets you write a competent home page.

You can access it by typing in console

Code: Select all

soffice -web
or

Code: Select all

soffice some-document.html
There is no entry for it in the aOO/LO tray menu, and until now this component
of aOO/LO did not have its own *.desktop file. ;) (Please see attached.)
~~~~~~
I wish a Successful and Happy 2018 to all !!
Attachments
web.desktop.zip
Works fine with aOO. I don't think any edit is needed if you use LO. Simply unzip
in /usr/share/applications and recycle your menu.
If one is using seamonkey as their HTML editor then I posted a tip to make opening html pages for editing easier with seamonkey esier:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=112395
One could do the same kind of things with the office software that musher0 mentioned above.
Content management systems are popular and may be one tool that the original poster is looking for but it is hard to know without more feedback.
A static site generator also sounds interesting. Static content is useful if one is using a content delivery network CDN or alternatively posting somewhere where dynamic content isn't possible (e.g. Freenet without any plugins)
If one is running a server on the remote site they might want to simulate it on their local computer for testing purposes. I posted one way that one could fake the URL of a website so that a website running on your local computer would look like a remote host to your browser:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=112402
I did this using nginx. Even if the original poster doesn't find this particular technique useful they still might want to run a webserver and my post gives some incite on how one might configure a nginx web server.
For kicks I searched "open source alternatives to dreamweaver". BludGriffon sounds interesting:
2. BlueGriffon
BlueGriffon is a WYSIWYG editor powered by Gecko, the same rendering engine included in Mozilla Firefox. One of a few derivatives of NVU, a now-discontinued HTML editor, BlueGriffon seems to be the only actively developed NVU derivative that supports HTML5 as well as modern components of CSS. Licensed under the MPL, GPL, and LGPL, a version of BlueGriffon is available for most major platforms.
https://opensource.com/alternatives/dreamweaver
although not mentioned in the article it also supports javascript and html 5.
Hi Max,
I'm not sure this is what you're looking for, or even if it's in the ballpark. Nor have I ever run it. But it came to mind: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 450#896450
