Tried to print, didnt realise that is a problem. (Solved)

#1 Post by number77 »

Hello
I am running frugal install tahr 605 on a dell vostro 1320, 2gb ram 2.2ghz and have been using it for months. I like tahr 605 alot but tried to print for the first time and got cups-pdf, print to file.
Has anyone a simple description of how to add a printer, a hp laserjet 1020 to tahr. I have read up but as a beginner it doesnt work. Tried foo2xxx_rcrsn.pet and that wouldnt install.
Any ideas.
Thanks

Details please. I just installed the foo2xxx driver in Tahrpup605 and it installed fine.

1. I downloaded the PET to a temporary location.
2. I click-installed it.
3. I ran the CUPS setup wizard.

I downloaded foo2xxx_rcrsn-2016.06.29.pet to root and get error message foo2xxx_rcrsn-2016.06.29.pet failed to install. Do I need the printer connected to load the driver.

It sounds to me like you are not getting a good download from Mediafire. The md5sum is

Code: Select all

67e7b06ec94ad87372c77c86b9003dcf foo2xxx_rcrsn-2016.06.29.pet

why are you installing this PET? Adding a printer using the CUPS that is present in Tahr 6.0.5 should suffice.

from the beginning... open your browser and open http:/localhost:631
the CUPS web interface should open. Click on the "Administration" tab then "add a printer" or "Find a printer". Make sure the printer is connected and turned on beforehand.

Are you doing these steps or similar?

@rockedge: We don't know where number77 is located, but could you (or anyone else) download the PET from MediaFire and check the md5sum?

It works for me.

Please read the entire thread.

Number77 found the driver package, installed his printer successfully and marked this thread as solved.

Reposting a link just causes confusion if the file ever changes location.
