The wine packages I compile have winetricks.
It is one file that gets installed to /usr/sbin/
I use:

Code: Select all

winetricks -h

Thanks version. I had just realized that tricks was built into this wine. I hope I'll never have need of most of the commands. However, are the windows fonts also installed with wine?

Is it advisable to self-update?

It appears some are.

I have installed various fonts using winetricks in troubleshooting attempts at getting various windows apps running.

On an unrelated matter. How do you suspend puppy on a desktop. On a laptop closing the cover apparently does it. Or does this just turn off the screen?

We the users of this forum are the only ones that can help to keep some order to it.
Please help!!

Please post a new question, as a new topic, in the Beginners section of the forum.

Multiple questions in a topic make it hard to follow.

Note:
If you are using a save folder than you have a frugal install of Tahrpup.
That is the best way to install Puppy Linux.

In the future ask questions or post problems in the Beginners or Users sections of the forum.

This section of the forum (Additional Software) is the place to actually post programs you compiled for Puppy.

Here is a good search site to use:

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

You do have the Tahrpup 32bit_compatibility_libs_tahr64.sfs package loaded in SFS-load on-the-fly?

If you do not have it download from here:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... es-tahr64/
32bit_compatibility_libs_tahr64.sfs needs to be located in /mnt/home

Run menu->Setup->SFS-load on-the-fly to load it.

With that loaded Wine config should work.

I am not running Tahrpup64 right now, but it is running for me
in Xenialpup64 7.0.8.5 (A 64bit Puppy.) with it's 32bit compatibility sfs loaded.

Thanks Bigdog, the first thing I did with the fresh Tahrpup was install 32-bit compatibility. However, I don't think the installation was complete, or so the list of skipped files would suggest. Why do you suppose files are being skipped?

I encountered the same issue when installing a new Audacity (audio processing lab).
Much obliged for your assistance, as always.

I have now loaded 32-bit comptability as per your instructions. However, Wine config does not run.

It seems every time I try to install it there is a different problem. I had it running a few days ago, but now, we're back to square one. Gremlins?

Here's what winecfg says:
root# winecfg

Thanks for your assistance.
The freetype font engine is already installed in PPM. libfreetype6_2.5.2

So, what have you done between then and now?

Wine V2.11 is working for me on my install of Tahrpup64 6.0.6.

My install:
1.Tahrpup64 6.0.6 is a frugal install on a USB hard drive partition formatted ext3.
It is using a save folder for saves.

2.The 32bit_compatibility_libs_tahr64.sfs is located at /mnt/home on the same partition as the Tahrpup install.
The 32bit_compatibility_libs_tahr64.sfs is loaded by SFS-Load-on -the-fly.
In the console I entered:

Code: Select all

ldconfig
Seems to be needed for Tahrpup to properly use the 32bit compatibility libs. Should only need this one time.

3. Installed the wine-2.11_v3.1.pet
Installed the wine_extras-v2.pet to get menu entries for wine.

4. Went to menu->Utility->Wine config
Ran Wine config.
Did auto setup of the drives.

It just worked for me.
I am not seeing any of the problems you report.

Puppy frugal installs on a location that is formatted with a Windows format (fat32, NTFS, etc...) can have problems caused by the filesystem fragmented or corrupted.
Windows programs chkdsk and defrag have to be used to fix it.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
