How to make Finnish keyboard work? (solved)

#1 Post by chubby »

Hi!

I have Puppy 2.02 installed on a HP Compaq nx6125 laptop and I'm having some troubles with my keyboard. I have finnish qwerty keyboard and some of the buttons aren't working at all, or they work wrongly. For example 'alt gr' works as 'enter' and right and left arrow-keys doesn't work at all. Scandinavian letters

be shure to run "chooselocale" in the ControlPanel-menu.
Does that fix your problems?

Hi!

I have tried both fi_FI and fi_FI@euro with no luck.

First look, if this helps you:
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=10878

If not:
I think there were reports, that the keyboard-setup depends on the Xserver you use.
If you use Xvesa, you could try Xorg instead.

Choose the xorgwizard in the menu.

Another workaround:
There is an "old" method, to override key-settings.
This method uses a file /root/.Xmodmap with custom definitions for each keycode.

There is a grafical program for it:
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=4656

That thread also explains, how you can customize .Xmodmap manually, if the supplied keyboard-layouts do not work.

Use this, if switching the Xserver won't help.
The advantage is, that with this method even very exotic keyboards can be used.

Hi!

This problem is solved... I had to reinstall puppy, cause it simply stopped working - I was messing something up that isn't even related to puppy...
Now, after new installation, I got xorg working again and after that finnish keyboard is working.
