Where is 666philb?

#1 Post by mavrothal »

For more than 2 months Phil (666philb) has posted nothing?
Anybody knows if he is OK or even just noticed him logged in the forum?

Hi mavrothal.

Yeah, now that you mention it, that's a bit strange, isn't?

Perhaps he got fed up with us ingrates not giving him due credit
for his top-notch work... And he decided on another distro?

I hope it's not health-related.

Googling his username comes up with a user of the same name who made a recent purchase on ebay. Hopefully that means he is OK. Of course that could be another person completely.

Perhaps he just needs time out from Puppy work. Shame, I reckon Tahr is probably the greatest Pup ever made.

But is 666 the first name or the last name? Hmmm...someone could grab the handle phil666 and confuse all the dyslexic people.

His first name is Phil, his family name is B-something, and his handle or nick
on this forum is "666philb". :)

Want proof? Please see here ;) You can't miss it!

I was only joking but a handle doesn't necessarily have to match a real name an if it did then the b could be a middle name. Anyway, I found his full-ish name in the thread that you linked to.

"Phil Broughton"

I was hoping that 666 his first or last name ;) Dissapointed :P

At one time he was active in the freenode.net IRC channel #puppylinux....until the new chanop(who is NOT a puppy user) banned him for some arbitrary reason.

I've sent him several emails concerning a problem I;m having with tahr 6.05 on a new Dell desktop with no answers....

I hope he's well and not gone from the Puppy Community...when he was active, here and in IRC, he was one of the most helpful and knowledgeable devs.

As an aside...this is one of the major problems with the "One Man Band" distros.

Maybe he has a devilish streak,
-- then again it could be his street address number!

Let's hope he's only on a long holiday on a tropical island that he bought
for cheap!

is it true the tahr 6.0.6 iso is no longer available??
That would be a setback since tahr 6.0.5 and then 6.0.6 are very excellent distros. real heavy lifters running very well systems like zoneminder on a surprisingly large range of machines...old,older and the newest.

does this mean an end to Puppy Linux in this direction? is Xenialpup 32/64bit going to be the end of this line?

They are still here:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pu ... 20-6.0-CE/
(It seems that the 64bit versions have been moved from their own (now empty) directory into the above one.)

In any case, they can also be downloaded from Ally's excellent Puppylinux collection (look for Tahr and Tahr64), so even if they were removed from ibiblio.org, they wouldn't be lost.

I love tahrpup

#20 Post by n00bPup »

So, 666philb is done. man. I love this os, and it's a shame that it won't be developed as regularly. I'm new to the whole linux show (a little late in the game) and tahrpup is my first real experience. I love it's ability to run off of a flashdrive that i can carry anywhere and use on practically any machine. I tried porteus, but it didn't have the charm or practicality that tahrpup has. I've heard of xenialpup and xenialdog, but i havent used them. Are they similar to tarhpup? Are there any other distros that even come close to this one? this may not be the right place to post these questions, but I'm new to this forum and learning. also, when will the "official" puppylinux.com be updated? or is it already up to date? if anyone even sees this, thank you for taking the time to read it, i know i'm long winded.
