Tahrpup64 6.0.5 live dvd no sound and network [sorta solved]

#1 Post by RickGT351 »

I am trying to make a live DVD that I can use for banking etc as described in this article. The author suggested using Lucid 5.1.1 but hardware issues put paid to that.
The catch is that after I haved saved to the DVD I no longer have an internet connection or sound. If I click on Connect then Wired or Wireless LAN, there are no interfaces on the list and in the ALSA setup, no levels show up (Master, headphone etc).
When I booted from the DVD initially or if I boot with

Code: Select all

puppy pfix=ram
the internet connection is there.
If creating a savefile on a flashdrive or hard disk, I can solve the problem by copying the zdrv sfs to /mnt/home then having Boot Manager load it at boot. It doesn't work with the DVD.
I have tried loading the zdrv manually but no internet results.
Boot Manager says the file has to be in directory / tried that and Boot Manager still couldn't see it. Have i overlooked something?

You did burn the DVD multi-session?

What program used to do the burn?

Looking at what is on the DVD.
You do see a save folder?

The DVD disc drive is able to burn to a DVD with no problems?

Tahrpup is the only thing on the DVD?

This is after trying to do a normal boot several times?
Sometimes a CD/DVD boot does not go correctly the first time.

DVD disc clean with no bad scratches?
DVD drive read lens clean?

Sure the DVD drive is working 100%.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

You do understand, that save network connection is only going to work on, the computer you made it on?

Yes. If I make a dvd for another computer, I will use that computer to configure things

if I boot with

puppy pfix=ram
the internet connection is there.

Well, try that.
Boot using

Code: Select all

puppy pfix=ram
.
Make the network connection setup.
Shutdown and save.
Reboot.

Any help?

The CD boot should use the last save made to the CD.

If no help.

What type network connection?
Wired or wireless?
Using what network connection setup program?
Simple Network Setup?
Frisbee?
Network Wizard?

Booting not using the save.

You can actually go to the CD.
Click on the save folder(directory) and open it to see what is in it.
In etc directory.
There should be a directory for the network connection program used.
In it will be the network setup info.

Example:
I used Simple Network Setup.
In the CD save directory etc/simple_network_setup/ there are two files:wpa_suplicant.conf and connections they are the setup for my WIFI connection.
All the connection info is in These two files.

If the setup is being saved in the save, you should be able to find it.

In the save there is also a black list to stop a specific device from loading.
But there is no reason your network device(s) should get into that list.
Could check it.
In the CD save etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

I am using a cable not wifi.
There is one file in the simple_network_setup called connections.
In that is this line

Code: Select all

eth0|Wired|forcedeth|pci|Reverse Engineered nForce ethernet driver |90:E6:BA:97:41:FA||

Latest: rebooted onto cd. No internet and no sound. I'm pretty sure I have had this problem with tahrpup before

Solved - kind of.
I burned a dvd with Slacko64 6.3.2. Internet worked after a reboot. I think I will use tahrpup 64 for my general computing and slacko64 on a live cd for banking.
Bigpup, it would be an interesting exercise for you to burn a live dvd of your own and see what results you get

Thanks for you help guys.

I am giving Tahr a spin myself, and have been trying my broadband modem. Fairly recent modems get detected as ethernet devices, and I found Tahr would set up the network just by runing the dhcpcd daemon alone. Without parameters, it requests a lease and sets up the eth0 device then detaches as a daemon.

Code: Select all

dhcpcd --help
usage: dhcpcd	[-ABbDdEGgHJKkLnpqTVw]
[-C, --nohook hook] [-c, --script script]
[-e, --env value] [-F, --fqdn FQDN] [-f, --config file]
[-h, --hostname hostname] [-I, --clientid clientid]
		[-i, --vendorclassid vendorclassid]
[-j, --dropwait seconds] [-l, --leasetime seconds]
[-m, --metric metric] [-O, --nooption option]
[-o, --option option] [-Q, --require option]
[-r, --request address] [-S, --static value]
		[-s, --inform address[/cidr]] [-t, --timeout seconds]
[-u, --userclass class] [-v, --vendor code, value]
		[-W, --whitelist address[/cidr]] [-y, --reboot seconds]
		[-X, --blacklist address[/cidr]] [-Z, --denyinterfaces pattern]
		[-z, --allowinterfaces pattern] [interface] [...]
       dhcpcd	-k, --release [interface]
       dhcpcd	-U, --dumplease interface
       dhcpcd	--version
       dhcpcd	-x, --exit [interface]
When finishing I use the command

Code: Select all

dhcpcd	--release
That is all the commands I use. I did use the menu network setup wizard a few times untill I discovered the dhcpcd command was all I needed.

By the way (re)mounting a zdrive SFS will not referesh the system, refreshing means copying over the files or relevant files from the zdrv archive to the system.
