Hi rcrsn51

Sorry for taking long to post a reply. I was busy checking some threads on the Ubuntu forum and from what I gathered the ipw4965 can't be used as an access point in linux distros. I guess I just have to look for a AP capable wifi adapter.

Hi gabtech,

I don't know how you installed vitualbox, anyway, first uninstall it, then this should work:

Add virtualbox.list to /etc/apt/sources.list.d :

Code:
echo "deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian stretch contrib" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/virtualbox.list

Add Oracle VirtualBox public key:

Code:
wget https://www.virtualbox.org/download/oracle_vbox_2016.asc
apt-key add oracle_vbox_2016.asc

Install gcc make perl linux-headers virtualbox-5.2 :

Code:
apt-get update
apt-get install gcc make perl linux-headers-$(uname -r) virtualbox-5.2

Taken from WIKI: https://wiki.debian.org/VirtualBox#Debian_9_.22Stretch.22
(the way to install from stretch-backports didn't work for me, btw)

EDIT: Just found that above won't work if you boot with kernel version lower than 4.9.11 because "linux-headers-$(uname -r)" is not found then (not anymore in Debian repository)
I'll make a "package" for 32-bit 4.9.11 kernel later.

Fred

Here's a tar.gz archive containing k-4.9.0-11-i386.squashfs, initrd1.xz, initrd.img, vmlinuz1. (for 32-bit)
https://github.com/fredx181/StretchDog/releases/download/v2.1/k-4.9.0-11-i386.tar.gz
Extract in 'live' folder (replacing initrd1.xz, initrd.img, vmlinuz1, better make backup of the original files first) and reboot.

See above post, for installing virtualbox it's required to boot with the 4.9.0-11 kernel, when booted with older kernel, it doesn't work.

EDIT: when booted with kernel 4.9.0-3 (as is on latest Stretchdog ISO) you can also load the devx: https://github.com/fredx181/StretchDog/releases/download/v2.1/61-DEVX-Stretch_1386.squashfs
Then as last step in previous post (install only virtualbox-5.2) :
Code:
apt-get install  virtualbox-5.2

Getting the below when trying to preform a system update from synaptc package manager... is something wrong or are they out of business for our StretchDog ?

Hi sszindian,

It's about the google-chrome repository only, apparently the trusted key is missing.
Can be fixed easily though, in terminal:
Code:
wget -q -O - https://dl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | apt-key add -

Another way is to disable the google-chrome repo (if you don't use it) by deleting google-chrome.list :
Code:
rm -f /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list

Sorry Fred that I was asking on the wRong thread...

Hi Max, I'm not sure how to help, which DDog is this, Simplicity or Busterdog ?
(Simplicity is based on StretchDog, so things should work the same, but I'm not certain)
One advice: don't use more than one 'Dog' install with 'live' on the root of a partition.
Better use unique folder name with 'live' folder inside (otherwise may conflict with each other)
So why you can't move the created saveme.dat to 'live' to the NTFS partition ?

If your bootloader is grub4dos, you should be able to boot Windows, example entry in menu.lst (if Windows is on sda1):
Code:
title Load BOOTMGR of Windows 10
root (hd0,0)
chainloader /bootmgr

No I've only installed the one DDog ( Frugal on NTFS ) & as I previously said the saveme.dat didn't get created...

Edit Stop Press the Create SaveFile has now finally worked ( I don't know whY !?! I Swear I didn't do anything different )

Also your above Code Worked so now it iz Dual Booting w/ M$ windoze X...

Thanx again Fred 4 your Help!

Have a Grolsch 4 me!

WinkK

Yes, that's right, thanks for reporting, the packages 'flashplayerchoice' needed an update.
Installing v 1.0.7 should fix it.
Install deb:
https://fredx181.github.io/StretchDog/amd64/Packages/Included/flashplayerchoice_1.0.7_amd64.deb
Or install 'flashplayerchoice' with synaptic or apt.

Hi Fred.

I have frugal-installed your DebDog Stretch32 on a Dell GX620 desktop and it's working fine except...

what do I need to download/install so that when I plug my Android phone (with a USB cord) into the PC will be recognized and connect so I can download camera pictures to the desktop PC?

I know all the hardware works, because the phone and PC connect right away when I boot other Linux distros, or Windows 7 or Windows 10.

Thank you.

.

Oh, one more thing:

When DebDog Stretch32 is booting, it scrolls lots of text on the screen (as do most of the Pups and Dogs). Is this scrolled text also saved to a file somewhere so I can review it ?

.

What works for me is "camphonetab" by rcrsn51, install with synaptic or apt.

I don't think it is saved, only thing I know of is "bootlogd" https://wiki.debian.org/bootlogd
After install it and rebooting I found /var/log/boot, but it is incomplete AFAIK.

@Ether: You probably know this already, but you also need to switch your Android phone into MTP-connection mode. The usual procedure is to swipe down from the top of the screen. This should show you some dialog about USB.

camphonetab works great with Samsung Galaxy J3 (running Android) connected via USB to Dell GX620 running DebDog Stretch32

Thanks.

While I'm trying to find an app that will log all the on-screen boot messages to a file, I just used my phone camera to take a picture of the screen (see attached photo image1.jpg).

Here is the GRUB menu item:
Code:
title sda3/304/live Porteus (changes on exit folder)
root (hd0,2)
kernel (hd0,2)/304/live/vmlinuz1 noauto from=/304 changes=EXIT:/304/live
initrd (hd0,2)/304/live/initrd1.xz

Despite the error message (in the red border), it seems to boot and work fine, but I'm wondering if the error message means I'm doing something incorrectly.

I get that same error too. It's not important, but Fred can explain where it comes from.
