Hi all,

Is anyone running Firefox64-ESR in any of their Slacko-based 64-bit builds?

Currently, I am running--in Micko's Slacko64-6.9.9.9--FirefoxESR-52.3.0 64-bit with no problems. But soon as I drop in the latest FirefoxESR 64-bit build of 52.4.1, which is the next build one removed after what I am running, Firefox will not run and/or start. Even trying it in terminal I see something about libgtk+3.so.0 error--what?, this is not showing in 52.3.0??

Did something major change between 52.3.0 to 52.4.1?? They both are based on FirefoxESR 52.

Anyone know??

[UPDATE] Well, my bad: maybe I've forgotten you can't just download FirefoxESR in its tar.gz format, extract it with UExtract, and then just drop into Slacko's existing /usr/bin/firefox folder the updated firefox version? Yes?? Maybe stuff has to come straight from Slacko itself, compiled by them. In PPM, it's showing the latest version offered by Slackware-14.2 repo is 52.3.0, which is what I have installed. Unfortunately 52.3 is two versions behind this latest 52.4.1 I'm trying to install. Is this correct on Slacko about not being able to drop in what you've extracted from a Firefox tar.gz download????

Yes belham, version compiled from Slackware repositories should work best (but I haven't tried it's 52.4.1 compilation yet). Very Happy

Interesting, it looks like 52.4esr is compiled, but not 52.4.1 yet

Hi Sailor,

Thanks for the headsup on 52.4, I'll give it a go. I've no problem running a older versions of a browser, it just I was perplexed that I couldn't drop in a extracted tar.gz from firefox itself into Slacko and have it work...then I thought, uh oh, you big dummy, this is S-L-A-C-K-O, so you better ask here first if that's not generally a good idea Wink
