For those who might find it difficult to set up a checkbook, here are two
that are ready-to-go:
-- Simple_Checkbook and
-- Vertex42_Checkbook.
This one is part of the aOO collection of templates.
I have used the former extensively for years, to manage my own money
and for a time, to track the ins and outs of a co-op I was a member of.
This Simple Checkbook can be used in LibreOffice, apacheOpenOffice
and / or gnumeric. For the latter, one starts with the *xls version and
saves it as a *.gnumeric file. And voilà, you have a gnumeric version.
As for aOO and LO, you'd normally prefer the *.ods version.
If one does not like the design of the two suggested above (although it's
difficult to be original or trendy with a checkbook template!
), there are
a lots more to choose from here. IHTH

Where to Top Up Pre-paid Debit Cards

Babaguy replied to post I linked to, suggesting the use of a pre-paid debit card rather than a 'minimum deposit required' bank account. Obtaining a pre-paid Visa debit card is easy: on-line, Walmarts and such. But I wondered how easy they would be to 'top up' when you plan to use them. Apparently, rather easy, at least in the US:

Mastercard debit cards may be as convenient. Mastercard has setup a network. You can find 'top up' locations from this link: https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/consume ... -card.html
The catch is that service only applies to "eligible" Mastercard debit cards, whatever that means.
Mastercard is somehow associated with Maestro available in some European Countries. I'll leave it to someone familiar with the Maestro brand to figure out what's going on.
