There are lots of variables in networking, especially WiFi, including all the different hardware.
In my early tests I found WiFi to be problematic. The connection would not survive a reboot.
Problems don't appear to be widespread, but there have been one or two other reports in these threads.

What I did was install PeasyWiFi and this has been perfect for me ever since.
Since this uses udhcpc in place of dhcpcd, it does point the finger of suspicion at dhcpcd although of course we should not jump to conclusions.

Stretch Pup has dhcpcd 6.10.1 from Debian.
As a test I compiled dhcpcd 7.0.3 from source using configure options to stay true to the (unorthodox) Debian directory structure.

--prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --sbindir=/sbin --libexecdir=/lib/dhcpcd

I am not suggesting this as a general change for everyone, but for anyone who is encountering problems this is just one of many things you can try in your efforts to troubleshoot.

I did briefly test it myself using my USB WiFi adapter which previously gave problems. It worked using SNS including surviving reboot.
Strictly for testing - take precautions accordingly.

Final release would be fine, and be official version For Puppy Linux..
IMO stretch is far as good as unbuntu flavoured Puppies, missing FFmepg and libav always bad version..
(Artfulpup is perfect too, i was speaking of Xenialpup)
Derivatives are not RC (Pupjibaro and hungarian Puppy)

36 developers were working on Puppy strech before Debian released final and official version.. Now nobody to get a final Puppy stretch.. Radky is alone on the project.. It's now that he needs a team for LTS support.. IS it true that one person hs to be alone on a project ? sooner or later, this person needs to relax, a swap team to not get fool, Radky being as a processor, pouring tasks to his 35 assistants.
Some left to create a competing project , in a brand new forum, with Xenialpup and Puduan as Puppies to support.. I prefer Dpup Stretch, that is a fact. And i would lie to show it on Puppy Linux Facebook where DDog Stretch cannot stay the only version available for the whole world

I tried Radky's version a lovely pup indeed and nearly ready for release and I'm sure when it is ready it will be released so I don't think that stops anyone enjoying using it and it being a daily driver.

Yep RC means Release Candidate doesn't stop you using it as a daily driver and as for Distrowatch - who cares Puppy is doing just fine without relying on that site.

RC is private club of testers. Yes Distrowatch is useful but less than a public site as sourceforge, where lot of windowsian borried by their old windows come and download Speedy Puppies.
Distrowatch is just a review, still showing Puppy as a repair OS, a second hand OS.. and nobody gets the text changed..
Simplicity Linux, which is an outlaw puppy, scored 30.000 downloads last year.

This should be considered for an official release once it is past RC stage

It runs very fast and smooth on all my PCs/laptops, all working, no issues.

This is one of the best pups around - the Debian packages often have far fewer deps than their Ubuntu equivalents..

A larger number of packages fail to install properly in Bionic - with Blender being the only one I can remember atm..

And it runs faster than all other recent pups I'm using.

I'm using this on various machines, and so far it's been fantastic.

Palemoon is not perfect though - it doesn't load the responsive iframes on the BBC News website (or many other site that uses Pym.js) ... Also some GitLab don't work.. But at least it doesn't have YouTube issues like Light Browser on Bionic...

But Bionic has nicer menus - fewer apps listed in the Desktop section - this Stretch RC has too many different JWM/desktop settings GUIs (IMHO of course)...

Hopefully, the following can be done

- menu cleaned up a bit
- add easy TTF installer GUI
- Use Light (instead of Palemoon), if you can get YouTube working
- auto connect to eth on reboot not working for me (used simple network wizard)
- should probably add dbus (or libdbus?) to ignored pkgs

My 12 year old son actually managed to install the latest version of Blender (packaged by Thomas Schiex I believe) in XenialDog64 the other day. Always crashed with a segmentation error for me. Method he used was to first install gnome-software from ppa of most recent version of that, and then install Blender via that and then to remove gnome-software.

Turns out he first add-apt-repository that Blender ppa of Thomas Schiek.

I've tried his method and works for me too. I was a bit shocked to say the least... I've no idea why this worked when a straight apt-get install from the Thomas Shiek ppa didn't - my only guess is that something else was installed by installing gnome-software and it was needed by Blender - maybe some python component (?) but really I've no idea why.

I do have it working ... I simply manually installed the 2 libs that were missing (libva-drm2_2.1.0-3, libva-x11-2_2.1.0-3 )... Unpacked them, and copied to / .. (Just to be clear to others - that was in BionicPup, Blender installs fine for me using Pkg in Stretch, fyi).

I don't do anything with blender, was just testing... Although will learn it one day .. I know Maya3D (somewhat!), so shouldn't be too bad ...

Looking in /var/usr/* and /var/etc/* there is 50 Megs of stuff which looks like a copy of the entire samba program files which are in the wrong location. (Or are they supposed to be there?).

Compiled from source by the Debian developers.
In Stretch I think this is better than using the official Mozilla builds, but since it is still the ESR version it is not the standard Quantum Firefox (It is relased at the same time as 60.0 with equivalent security fixes). This build uses libgtk-3 (already included) but does NOT need pulse audio or apulse.

Repack for Dpup Stretch removes unneeded Debian compliance files and adds .desktop and icon files for Puppy JWM menu. Files which Debian spread to other locations are re-gathered into /usr/lib/firefox and a couple of other tweaks to preferences have been made. Extensions auto updates is disabled but can be enabled manually. Open H264 codec is enabled but can be disabled manually. Use the .deb packages if you prefer. Runs sweetly in my tests so far.

Here, however, I must disagree

Palemoon may have temporary shortcomings from time to time, but Light is annoying, awful and in my case, useless. If anything, I'd prefer FF over Light (and I h4t3 FF).

By the way, I've found last version of Palemoon (27.9.2) surprisingly responsive (BUT I don't visit sites as those Sc0ttman pointed out).

If included browser a Light is not good for you just change it, included in adrive for artfulpup
The .sfs in this iso are as follows:
adrv contains the web browser and can be replaced ##
fdrv contains a selection of firmware **
zdrv contains the kernel in association with vmlinuz
ydrv adds extra right-click options and is optional
## the light web browser can be replaced by a more heavyweight browser such as
Chromium or Firefox - see the forum for details

What about final release ? that would mean Dpup Stretch 7.5 is the elected Puppy stretch.. no need to test or use different versions.. this one is agreed by all VIPs inside Puppy Forum society.
However locale versions are available, mainly to help local users who would not understand English explanations Given in Murga forum.

Honestly, I don't get it. What's the point/rush of declaring it "final release"? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Dpup is based on Debian, and Debian is known for its stability and no rush to declare a release as "final" (as it does happen in other distros)

Point being, stability and continuous improving are the key, the rest is just semantics. I guess Dpup Stretch will be considered "final" release when Dpup Buster is on

Dpup stretch aimed to be the perfect stretch . Final release will be the certification for Public release. a Jump from school to reality, and support for thousands of downloaders.. that is an evidence that support is not development.
like washing machines, building it with your colleagues is different of receiving claims from housewives..

Since the changelog in the 2nd post says "Last edited 02/Jan" I'm guessing it's still at RC2 but haven't checked the iso.

"Light" browser was a nice idea for a while but the project has been dead since 2016. OTOH Palemoon is still being maintained.
