HP2130 Printer Cannot Connect.

#1 Post by BJF »

Dell D800, LxPupTahr 15.12 Full, CUPS 1.4.8, and with rcrsn51's libjpeg_fix-7 patch applied.

A bit of history: The HP2130 was purchased to replace a faithful HP2540 connected to a Dell desktop which was also running a full install of LxPupTahr 15.12 as a LAN printer. The desktop was discovered one day recently to be searching constantly for Drive 0 with a drive or controller failure. The 2540 returns the same "Failed to connect..." error as does the 2130 and was initially thought to have been killed by the events around the drive failing.
The 2540 will copy but its ability to scan hasn't been checked on any other machine as the desktop only had a scan set up. The 2130 will also copy.

The 2130 has been tried with an EEEPC/Saluki, EEEPC/LxPupTahr thumb, the Dell D800, an HP C500/LxTahrPup, three different USB leads, and the Deskjet 2000 Series driver as no specific 2130 driver exists in our distro's CUPS versions.

Thanks,
John.

HP2130: Further to this topic, the test page command (or Abiword page) now produces a "Processing page 1" response which disappears after about 5 seconds suggesting that the task has been done. Still no printing from the Dell laptop though, with any of the USB leads or likely drivers.
A live CD of ArtfulPup was tried too, with the latest CUPS. Same responses.

EDIT: Re-read rcrsn51's detailed How-To on printer installs (bless him) and added the hplip forward-compatible .pet to the laptop, and also to a brand-new install on a thumb drive, of LxPupTahr 14.12 to plug into the EEEPC. Did a fresh install of the 2130 on both. Asking for a test page results in a printer carriage shuffle and a "Printer is now on line" comment, and the printer fails to an error situation and sits twitching at 5sec intervals. No print. On both machines.
Interestingly, a fresh install of the old 2540 produces exactly the same result! On both machines, and with all the USB leads tried! The common denominator has to be the distro, but the burning question is why the 2540 worked for a year with this OS and now joins a brand new printer in the same behavior and won't print.

Come in please rcrsn51!
