Updating xz utils

#1 Post by frenchiveruti »

Hello everyone, I'm using TahrPup 6.0.5 and the xz utils included in it is 5.1.0alpha.
The newest version of xz utils includes an option that allows me to use all my CPU cores for faster compression. Which would be useful for my sheer amount of files. Also for compressing in puppy as it doesn't use much RAM so the process would be rather smooth.

So, I got the source files and I was about to "make install" it but then I realized that everything that could go wrong could go very wrong, so how do I "update" it without breaking anything important?
Thanks.

I updated xz to 5.2.3 the same way (compiling the source) at one point, and tar 1.29 and gzip 1.8. Didn't have any issues. :)

Did you took special care regarding directories or compilation?
Thanks for your input!

Hi frenchiveruti,

I assume you have Frugal Install. Always backup your SaveFile/Folder before doing anything which can go very wrong.
