Go to www.abisource.com/download/abispell.phtml to find a dictionary file for your language. Download it and unzip it into the folder /usr/share/AbiSuite-2.4/dictionary. My particular Abiword setup has the default language en-US and I have always had trouble getting Abiword to change languages. So I just rename the dictionary file I want to use to "american.hash" and it works fine.
